Perhaps they are disposing of live material that was scattered about by the accident - it could be too dangerous to attempt moving it.

I'm sure that some of our ex-military members will have a better idea than me...

Wot he said!

I imagine they still have to get rid of some of the stuff affected by the recent explosion and moving it isn't an option. I don't think leaving it until everyone in the vicinity has got over the trauma is either. How long would that be do you think? Common sense dictates deal with it in a timely and responsible fashion which it seems with the announcement that they are.

Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) - maybe they will dispose of them through the night, (excuse the cynicism!)

Put it off until when exactly? Unexploded ordnance needs to be dealt with promptly, else there is increased risk of even more problems. If that fact upsets your feelings, then so beit! The needs of the majority take precedence.

Of course it has to be done if thats the reason I was under the impression that it was the regular firing of guns etc to check them. I dont know where you live but being very close to where the accident happened it was one of the most terrifying nights of my life I am still very nervous of loud bangs.

Well I did hear a loud boom from the direction of the Army camp at about 2pm. Definitely not the normal quarry blasting. Of course they will be muffling the blast to reduce shock wave damage. Here in Esentepe we heard the whole shebang on the twelfth... unlike some folk who live nearer, must be fluke of the terrain. It was only one boom but I'm sure that was it.

I heard they will coincide the explosions with a big fireworks show to take the edge off a bit.

naah, just kidding.

God, Deniz1, I really do hope nothing really serious happens in your life. Lighten up and accept others have different senses of humour. OK, you were exposed to some unexpected loud bangs in the night, but you were uninjured. Now move on as the thousands of ex- Service personnel have done after numerous conflicts and being exposed to many 'loud bangs'. Artillery firing will not be conducted at the site of the base in question. There are specific range areas and they do not include the area near the Acapulco.

Having your widows shaking being asked to leave your home in the middle of the night and watching a huge fire threatening to engulf the hillside where i live was pretty serious to me. Service personnel obviously experience far worse but they are trained for it. Living alone is scary enough sometimes. Sorry if you think I am being petty.

No Deniz1, I do not consider you as being 'petty.' I do, however, believe you need to develop, or seek professional help to develop, a coping mechanism to manage unseen and disturbing events. Whilst the night in question must have been frightening and disturbing, you have to move on. IMHO.

Having had my husband drop dead in front of me I think I know how to cope with disturbing events. I sold up in England and came to live here totally alone. 18yrs later I am still happy to be here. I am moving on now no more comments until next time something goes bang in the night.

I'm absolutely amazed at the arrogance and lack of sympathy with some of the posts in response to Deniz1. If you can, just try and ignore them they are just not worth it.
