Tourism and visas

I've read a lot about NC wanting to increase tourism. However, the current visa changes appear to contradict this.
Can anyone explain the rationale? Is it to force more people to apply and pay for residency permits? Any other reasons?

Can I suggest you have a read through the countless and often locked topics on this that have been discussed at great length? I think the rationale is so that as a Country they know just how many visitors and none nationals they have on the Island. Basically it brings them into line with most Countries of the World really.

If you do take the time to search for any threads with the words visa or residency you will spend a lot of time reading and so many reasons have been given none of which of course are based on fact because as it stands there are no new regulations yet.

Agree with post above.

There are a good number of topics on the forum about residency, new rules etc. Some have been locked but most remain open. By the number of newly opened topics on the same subject it would appear a lot of people don’t read the others.

Reading each of the individual topics will give you an idea that the rules are changing supposedly from today. However; there is much ambiguity and nothing is set in stone. Only a couple of days ago just before today’s date for the new regulations to become operational there were concerns raised via a number of organisations to the prime minister. He has said these concerns need investigation and the rules need to be clarified.

I would suggest that you take anything you read or hear at the moment with a pinch of salt and wait until things are much clearer. As I have said in other posts the rules are not set in stone and are subject to interpretation by both the officials and also us. As often happens here one official will interpret the rules one way and another will see things differently and there confusion reigns. What you are told by a friend will be different when the next friend hears something from another friend.....And so it goes on.

“Yavas, yavas”, all will be revealed sometime.

Thanks for your replies.
Yes, confusing and speculative would be a fair comment.
I shall continue to follow the subject with interest.
