For those interested what goes on and what Brexit will bring these are the new laws for 2020. Put these different links as showing some on one and some on the other.

Its only the yearly increase that may be affected but no explanation as to why.

Crikey I hope they don't freeze it in 2023. I have a relative who lives in a country where UK allowed increases for two years and then froze it. That was sometime in the 1980s and it hasn't gone up a penny since then. Not nice at all.

This happened regarding several countries, including (I believe) commonwealth countries, so that British emigrating/retiring there, together with cw immigrants who had lived and worked most of their lives in the UK and returned "home" all lost out -retained their pension but no increases....

2023 will be the turning point for all Pensioner benefits. Removing the Triple lock for State Pension which the Tories have wanted to do saying it’s too generous and should be scrapped. Free bus passes and Winter Fuel Allowance to be treated as taxable income. Phasing out the free TV licence to be means based on Pension Credit. Free prescriptions and Eye tests.

It’s an emotive subject and calls for a Universal State Pension based on the living wage. We have now got a two tier system running which is complicated and unfair.

As for those Pensioners living abroad, pretty much a wait and see as there has been no final agreement on Citizens Rights.

There has been nothing said about taking off the triple lock for pensions or removing free prescriptions or anything else mentioned, you should just give Boris time to sort things out instead of scare mongering

Not scaremongering at all. Triple lock has been discussed or criticised in UK for the last 3 years at least. Ros Altman, Ex Pensions Minister. House of Lords Committee discussing Intergenerational Fairness, they called for help for the older generation to be curtailed in order to help the younger generation. Tax Alliance Committee. All of the things above I wrote have been discussed over the years. All of these are classed as Benefits of kind and will come under scrutiny at some time. Theresa May said she would keep the triple lock until 2020.

You are correct to say we don’t know what Boris Johnson has in mind and doubt if he does until the time comes to discuss it all again.

Like I said, emotional subject and everyone has different views.

Lords committee, Ex pensions minister, no one in the current government has said anything about this and you say that Boris doubts that he knows what he will do until the time comes, I think differently as he has proved by getting the Brexit bill through as the majority of people in the UK wanted, I say again give him time

Boris Johnson’s Conservative Party has won a majority - the largest Tory majority since 1987 - following the UK general election.
In the manifesto the Tories say: “The ‘triple lock’ we introduced has meant that those who have worked hard and put in for decades can be confident that the state will be there to support them when they need it. We will keep the triple lock, the winter fuel payment, the older person’s bus pass and other pensioner benefits.”

I like the bit in The Guardian about free travel in EU countries after Brexit with no visas for a year during the transition period. Tell that to ROC who have already said they wont let non EU members cross the borders starting Jan 31st. Where is the UN in all this they control the green line but so far nothing announced by them.

But the Green Line is not a border, is it? It is just a buffer zone between two parts of the same EU country. I know, that has nothing to do with new laws for UK in 2020, just try going to the British Embasy on the 1st of Feb 2020 and ask them to explain it all, good luck! Happy New Year to all.

Sadly, there is no British Embassy in either part of Cyprus, just a down played High Commission with a branch in the TRNC you need to 'phone to book an appointment at its convenience on the few days/hours it decides to open for business. Previous High Commissioners have publicly stated they do not acknowledge UK expats residing within the TRNC.
