Driving Rant.

Driving home yesterday indicating to do a right turn. Dabbing brake pedal to warn guy behind me of my right turn, watching this guy behind in my mirrors, slowed down to turn right, still watching guy behind and he is not slowing down, i was almost at a stop by now, Somehow i could sense what the guy was going to do. then he did, just pulled out and overtakes us. Had i not been watching this guy there would have been a really bad accident.

OK rant over for day. Until the next time eh.

Had exactly the same problem a few years ago, kept watching this idiot way before my turning, did all I could to make my intentions clear, just about I started to turn this lunatic overtakes me. On the same note, we are all used to these people on their mobile phones while driving but why have they such little regard for the safety of children floating about, unrestrained in their cars, do they want to see them flying through the windscreen in the event of an accident. Absolutely indefensible and horrifying!

Hi. Funny what i normally do when some lunatic is speeding up behind me and i want to turn right, i normally carry on for a bit turn around and then do a bit safer left turn. Looks like i will have to start doing this again. Hey Oh.

I indicated to turn right fron near east hospital. Nothing coming from roundabout outside crusty bake. Waited for 4 cars to pass from left hand side or stop and let me turn towards lemar. So what happens a car comes and I am stationary ALMOST in middle of the road and what does the moron do?? Drived into me. Result police say my fault because I blocked the road and he could not drive forward. Had a balistic event at police station. Spoke to top police man with my friend who is a cypriot. But police say my fault!! Spoke to my insurance man he said my fault as i was blocking road. THE FACT THAT WHEN I PULLED INTO THE ROAD FROM HOSPITAL THERE WAS NO VEHICLE COMING ON MY SIDE OF ROAD. WHY WON'T THEY JUST GIVE WAY. I would not have been in front of him I was going in other direction. Result I pay a fine cause he hit me.

I sympathise with you sausage. I've found myself in exactly the same spot when leaving that hospital and was only the grace of God that stopped carnage. Now I wait (with people hooting from behind me) until I can quite literally see nothing whatsoever either way and don't care how long it takes. I'm amazed it doesn't happen every day. We also have two similar spots in Alsancak.

I regularly turn left and turn into a parade of shops just to turn right , Ill never block on coming traffic on the assumption that any approaching vehicle is being driven one handed with the driver talking on the phone..

I think there are plans to bring in 'being overtaken while turning right' into the residency procedure.

Not being funny, but....I remember years ago in Cyprus and in Turkey if a car/truck in front was going slow, they would indicate right to let car behind know that it was safe to overtake. Make of it what you will.

Soner they do that in Eire there's a wide margin at the side of the road not for driving on but it enables a slower vehicle to move over

I still have to think carefully when a car coming the other way, flashes its lights. When we came first came here I was told that if the driver learned to drive in Turkey then the flashing meant "I am coming, you must slow down" and if a driver learned to drive in TRNC it meant "I/m slowing down so you can carry on".

So did/do I but it was a driver in Turkey that warned me that some people taught in Turkey use the opposite system when approaching someone who wants to turn across them.

I thought it meant that the oncoming driver was showing off in that he had both headlights that worked!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

My three favourite bug-bears are the idiots that drive around at night with just their side lights on and fog lights even when it's not foggy, driving round with dipped lights and fog lights even when it's not foggy and those that think their dipped lights are on when their instrument lights are on, even though they may have just their DRL LED's on with the ignition but no tail lights. Actually i just realised I've got many other bug-bears as well.

There was a Police car behind me yesterday and he kept flashing people to come out of junctions. Each time his offside headlight went out and there was no sidelight.

We can't believe how many cars have at least one faulty light. We were discussing this with my brother when he was over on holiday and bet him that we would see 10 between Esentepe and the Cratos one night about 5pm. We saw 15... We've had quite a number of cars between us over the last 40+ years and have only had to replace bulbs on a handful of occasions. Why is it such a problem here?

come-on-aylin. I'm sure you know the answer!!! It's the same case as most of their cars don't have indicator lights.

But to use indicator lights will show you know as much as them, and there time is greater than yours.

You are right Soner as that is what it means in many other countries around the world too, but the driver who indicates right usually slows down and keeps to the left of the road as possible, to enable the overtake to happen safely...…….

My suggestion would be if you are turning right then stay more towards the right hand side of your lane and as a precaution, it may be ideal to stick your hand out as well signalling a right turn …….This may sound old fashioned like the old Highway code in the UK , but it actually works.

I suppose this could catch on.
Re the locals do you suggest they put the hand out that is holding their mobile phone or the hand holding the kebab? I can see minuses on either, difficult to text v cold kebab.

I think they keep the kebab in their holster, the gun they leave at home for the kids to play with

Driving to the Metahan crossing this morning, just about to go straight ahead in the left hand lane at the last roundabout before the crossing, this idiot in the right hand lane decides to turn left, he missed wipping me out by inches. Sorry locals but some of your countrymen are total lunatics and should not be behind the wheel of a car!

Good point about the locals , however my suggestion was intended for the sensible drivers who are having difficulties with the locals overtaking whilst turning right.
My suggestion to the locals would be " when in TRNC , do as the TRNCs do "
Even in London people are still eating , using their mobiles whilst driving. bad habits die hard.
