Re: Coronavirus
OK, here goes. I've spoken to a number of locals who truly believe Covid 19 will not develop here because we live on an island and that as most of the people come either from Turkey or through Turkey, then Turkey will stop people coming here. The lack of knowledge with some of the locals is potentially dangerous and sad at the same time. Yesterday it was obvious the people involved were totally ignorant of the importance of personal hygiene and ALL considered the flimsy paper masks were more than enough protection. You only have to visit the loos in some cafes (and in particular some supermarkets, smaller hotels, most Government offices and State hospitals), to realise how woeful they are and lacking in facilities. I've never been to one of the public loos, so cannot comment on them. How the TRNC would cope I have no idea and I sincerely hope the powers that be are beavering away in the background preparing a Master Plan.
Buy antiseptic wipes and take them with you at all times, would be my advice.

All the public loo's I have been in have been good - probably because you pay to pee - lol. Don't go near a soldiers loo mind you, made that mistake at ledra palace crossing once and have never been that way again but the smell still lingers on and on and on. In fairness a Turkish army captain did tell me not to use it but I had no choice in the matter at the time.
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Re: Coronavirus
Waddo, you reminded me of an occasion when a new CO arrived at our unit. After a few days he addressed the regiment. His opening statement was ‘ I always judge the standard of a regiment by the cleanliness of its toilets. The toilets in this unit stink’.
Needless to say, they didn’t stink for long
