The U.K. minister has announced that if a health worker dies of covid 19 the family will receive £60k.
Really!

I do hope they will extend this paltry payment to the armed forces, police, fire brigade, coast guards, RNLI, Civil Search & Rescue and anyone else who willingly puts their lives on the line for the benefit of all those 2ho do not - like UK Ministers! Don’t these people have any common sense at all? Just wonder how much they would pay to save their own lives?

The last few companies I worked for had a death in service insurance scheme which paid out 4 times your salary to your next of kin if you died in service. I don't think it was particularly expensive either. So ok if you are on 25k it is "only" 100k but....

OK, what's your figure? Is any figure going to be enough?

Personally I think 60k is a bit on the low side but any figure is going to get criticised.

How much is a life worth?

Well a lot more than it was in 1918 when they had the spanish flu it seems they just carried on as normal then

It is not the amount that upsets me, it is the restriction on who is worth the amount! I have no doubt that there are some MPs who are working extremely hard as are some food delivery drivers and the sanitation staff who are keeping the countries sewerage systems functioning, all of them will be putting themselves at risk providing a service or to keep others safe, yet it seems their lives are, in monetary terms, worthless!

To restrict any amount of payment to a single body of workers is an affront to others and simply unfair in my opinion, it is making a distinction against the theory that all are equal. However, it does make sound political sense to do it if you want to show how supportive you are of one particular body that you have badly let down for so long.

In answer to how much should be paid, I could only suggest that it is the same amount that YOU have decided YOU require for YOUR own life insurance and which is stated on YOUR life insurance policy!

Its from the public purse and we will all pay once we start paying the massive monetary debt back.
I'm certain, like me, that everyone will support the allocated £60K.
The support and acknowledgment to the Care industry right now is really heart rendering and rightly so.
charitable donations from the public are without doubt being very well supported again it is heart rendering
TOM @ 29 million £ illustrates the global support to these brave heroes.
They will not be forgotten and war hero status is without doubt on the out the other side agenda.

I wonder if health care insurance will cover any overseas incidents of contracting COVID. Given the Intensive care required. I suspect not. I expect some exclusion clause and or massive hike in policy cost.
Travel abroad has suddenly become much higher risk and potentially costly. Very costly if you want to take the risk.

It might have been an opportunity to see what is important in the NHS and fine tune the logistics, centralise and perhaps cut some of the non essential management jobs. The front line have been glorious during this crisis, many of the back room boys have not covered themselves in glory.
It is such a massive organisation the NHS that I don’t think it is using its purchasing power as well as it might. With the billions it has available maybe it would be worth it investigating buying a company to make PPE rather than buying it from a variety of sources at a variety of prices?
