Coconut oil
Does anyone know where I can get coconut oil from at a good price? Normally I bring a load from Aldi when I go back to the uk, which is around a pound odd for a jar, but as I cannot go back I have to buy it here, but it's really expensive, around 65 tl a jar which is around 7 pounds. I use a lot of it in my cooking, so appreciate it if anyone has seen any on offer maybe?

Re: Coconut oil
Bit of a faff but you could make your own as fresh coconuts are now available in Lemar and probably other supermarkets, about 60p each. Instructions are on utube, and with plenty of time to while away the days maybe a new project for you!

It is expensive here, and never seen it on offer. I haven't been in Tempo for such a long time, but they used to sell the refined KTC stuff, which is probably not what you are looking for, and should be cheaper. I got 1 litre jar of the proper unrefined stuff from the health food shop in the same block as Uncle Sam's...it's still got the price ticket on and was 106 TL, but that was quite a while ago, and may be more expensive now.

I got some in the new Ileli market , I cant remember the price but I'd be very shocked if it was anything like 60 tl. Maybe try there.

Yes our chemist in Alsancak USUALLY has it somewhere on the front counter. Can't remember the price but it wasn't too extortionate.

Re: Coconut oil
the "bio" unrefined stuff from Aldi is approx 5 euro for a 450 ml jar, so, approx 10 GBP for 1000ml.
expect prices to be double in NC
try Sah supermarket.

Thank you for all your replys. Few places didn't even have any in stock yesterday. Had to buy from a pharmacy in the end, 65tl.

Re: Coconut oil
I was sure you'd obtain from a pharmacist and it's not as expensive as some people made out is it?

Re: Coconut oil
The 1L jar I got a while ago may have been a little more expensive here than UK, but nothing to write home about and is raw, unrefined extra virgin. However, can't compete with Aldi price at £1 odd a jar, but then personally have no idea what kind of coconut oil that is, whether refined or not.

for 1,69 gbp (not 1 gbp) or 5,60 gbp (or say 6,30 euro) for 1 liter you can not get good quality.
its neither bio nor fair trade... it is non EU mass production (with most probably children work included)
