Great news for working tourists! Now they will need 4 weeks holiday to have two weeks here then two weeks back in lock down at home! Not many people will be able to do that for sure!

But its not strictly quarantine is it? Self isolation presumably at home. It will have to be enforced by who? Do they have spare police to do it? They dont have Zabita officers as we do here. Too little too late. (:())

I think that history is going to report that huge and catastrophic booboo's were made by this Government before, during but hopefully not after. Too little, too late and insufficient clout by the police to enforce anything, particularly as the population was "asked" or "requested" rather than being mandatory. I find it very sad but then I cheer up a little when I think what would have happened if Jeremy had been running the show.

You never know, he might have saved thousands of lives. Boris has been far from spectacular.

As the epidemic started ,I don't think Jeremy would have gone on a freebie holiday to the Carrabean

Well that's true, but I still think the UK would be in a far better place health wise if he hadn't had to hand over to subordinates who at times appeared to take their eye of the ball. We stopped watching the daily briefing some time ago when it was excuse after excuse.

Counter productive if they want things to get back to normal why would you go to UK for a holiday or business where the virus is rife in the first place and then have to stay inside for two weeks.

I dunno Cuba counts as the Caribbean. Though if Diane Abbacus was in charge of the figures the reported deaths would be a lot lower.

Of course not; it's in the Mediterranean... no, it's in the Baltic - or is it the Dead Sea? The Sea of Azov? Or is it the Mare Tranquillitatis (sea of tranquility)? Oh no, that's on the moon.... or is it?

Its just another bit of the constant too little, too late approach from the UK Govt. Too make it worse they have even struck a reciprocal deal with the French, so when they fly into UK or UK citizens fly into France, they don't have to bother with quarantine at all - guess the French must be immune and the Govt is keeping it secret that the cure is for all the UK citizens to become immune by visiting France!!! It beggars belief!

My Cypriot friend is not bothered by this UK quarantine at all, still planning on going on holiday to UK next month (Pegasus he tells me) and says he will just ignore the self isolation bit as he is going to stay with friends anyway. Told me that the UK would not be able to check if he stayed there or went out when he wanted to "the same as here". Said he would just play the "No speaky english" card anyway so no problems.

I give up!!! Just glad I live here and not in UK.

Well, as long as the situation in TRNC remains the same, he's not going to pose a risk to the UK public - he'll be more at risk of catching it!

Like you Waddo, I have lost faith in most of the decisions being made by UK Government. The "sick man of Europe", the slackest lockdown in Europe, apart from Sweden and Belarus, total chaos in PEP ordering and delivery (what the hell they would have done without the Army, Lord only knows), ignorance of what the state of Care Homes etc was, the list goes on. Have to admire the Scots, Welsh and N. Ireland Governments for sticking to their guns. I gather the business with not testing the French is something to do with an agreement some time ago, unless I've misread the article. Plus it looks as if Hancock is probably going to be on his way out once this present emergency is over.

I think it's important to realise we have a beaten, wounded and bitter left leaning media in the UK and they are using this virus as a political weapon.

The experience of real people on the ground is not represented.

The opinions of real people on the ground are not represented.

I speak to friends in the TRNC on a regular basis including British, Cypriot (Both), Turkish & Pakistani and have to fill in the gaps regarding how the UK has dealt with and is dealing with the pandemic.

The current PM & Govt are riding high in the polls and we have today begun the unlockdown.

lol

Times, Telegraph, FT, Economist, Spectator, Daily Mail, Sun, Murdoch, sorry Sky News. Yep a thoroughly "beaten, wounded and bitter left leaning media in the UK"

I am getting a wiff of bias here and I am not sure it's coming from the 'media in UK' alone ;)

I agree with Hedge-fund, many people I know are fed up with all the anti Government rhetoric in the media, even those who normally, supposedly, are more right wing leaning. My own experience has been very positive, my husband is in the shielding group, we have food boxes delivered every week, contact from the local council to make sure we are ok and if there is anything they can do to help. As to the latest advice from the Government it was crystal.clear to me, some people just want their hands holding and refuse to take personal responsibility for themselves and loved ones.

You ever watched Sky News? Kay Burley, seriously?
The FT and The Economist are not what I would call right leaning either.
It's a very lazy stereo type Murdoch = Right wing. Murdoch = Self Interest, always has always will

The media is changing, the days when people got their news from their paper are over it's all Facebook and Twitter now which are dominated by the left. Momentum realised this which was why they did so well in 2017. By 2019 the right had caught up a bit.

Totally agree.
I think that the media seem to think that rather than the 100s of procurement heads on 70-80 grand a year sorting out the PPE for their hospital, Boris should be personally be delivering it to every ward.
