Just started watching Gangs of London, very violent but really enjoying it. Watching it on Plex that has an incredible amount of tv series and movies. A lot of the tv series I've never heard of but a lot I forgot about so they bring back good memories . What are your suggestions for a series to watch. Happy VE day!

Kung Fu with David Carradine (1972 !)

I noticed that in episode 2, his father John Carradine played the preacher, and one of his brothers, Richard Carradine played the Mute 'Sonny Jim'.

I know - I don't get out enough :)

Watched that, thought it was a lot of far fetched nonsense tbh.

You is a good series and The Last Ship was good and quite topical for the moment

If you like New Amsterdam then you will love The Resident and The Good Doctor. Both excellent medical dramas.

Many described it as s**t as they didn't understand it but it had a Number 2 in every episode - it was of course, The Prisoner.

I watch very few modern series or few series at all for that matter. However, I still love Morse, Lewis, Vera, Endeavour (proper acting and no reliance on awful language) BUT my absolute all time Series was 35 years ago i.e. M.A.S.H and I was one of the 106Million who watched the final episode and wept buckets!!! The theme music was great as well.

apparently Patrick McGoohan couldn’t make head nor tail of it and he co wrote it!

It might have been an urban myth but years ago they repeated The Prisoner but someone completely jumbled up the order the episodes were shown in. Many people commented that it finally made sense.

Sophie put a post on here earlier today, I replied but when I looked both my reply and Sophie's post had vanished - spooky!!

So you loved MASH then? Me too. Now try "68 Whiskey", it's only in it's first series but is showing promise - which probably means it will be cancelled - lol.

See Msg No 2 - Peaky Blinders is right there so nobody copied it.

Don't worry Keith, I always wondered what happened to No 6 myself!!!

But, if you are feeling hard done by under the current lock down system or you are fond of conspiracy theories and believe - still - that the earth is flat, here is one you should watch and then thank your stars that you live in the TRNC.

I think trying to follow lip synching went out with The Water Margin and Monkey when the dubbed English used to kick in about 10 minutes later

Have you tried The Goldbergs? It's modern but a must for any 80's teen. A few of the cast of Cheers appeared in a recent episode.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Mr. Robot.

I've seen it twice and I think It is the only show you should see. Don't worry, it's not all about hacking, but mostly a psychological thriller.

I can't quite remember how the last episode of Danger Man finished, but....
You weren't alone Keith, it was a common mis-conception as the first episode of The Prisoner started with the "resignation" from some service of some sort of secret agent, which viewers could have concluded was John Drake, however Patrick McGoohan only ever explained this as pure coincidence.

Another interesting factoid is that at the time, and possibly until today, The Prisoner was / is the only (at least British) TV series where the opening scenes of episode 1 were used in the opening titles of each episode that followed. This could have been to help to explain to new viewers joining mid-series what it was about. After all, in those days you couldn't catch up easily as there were no +1 Channels or On-Demand etc.

To close on a related anecdote, Lew Grade of ITC which distributed The Prisoner, also distributed many of Gerry Anderson's productions including Thunderbirds. In a meeting with Grade, Anderson wanted more budget to stretch episodes of Thunderbirds from 30 minutes to an hour. Grade left his office through a rear door and returned minutes later to confirm to Anderson that he could have his money. Anderson subsequently discovered that the "adjoining office" Grade went to was actually a broom cupboard.

I’ve watched all the episodes of Peaky Blinders so far. Brilliant series.

One to watch now is “Ordinary People” BBC 1 - 12 Episodes.

If you don’t mind subtitles (as there are some incredible shows made by non-English speaking nations), I recommend Gran Hotel and Gomorrah.

Completely contrasting shows, but Gran Hotel is much better than Downton Abbey and Gomorrah is the very best Mafia show.

As I find it much too hard work to follow subtitles with my failing eyesight I generally wait for the poorer English remake.
WTF is it with subtitles these days, they seem to have reduced the font size by about 80%, and it's not just my failing eyesight, and my particular favourite of popping up the majority of them against a light backdrop.
Dubbing is an alternative but I have been in countries which when this is done generally seem to use the same 6 voice actors. I particularly like Tom Hanks films but wouldn't necessarily pick him to voice/star in Four Weddings and a Funeral.
