Ragged Robin - Updated 13/5

Post by waddo »

Sad news! I learnt this morning that Ragged Robin, with whom I have had many a heated argument on this forum, will post here no more! An ardent supporter of the Disabled and disabled community I am sorry to say that Ragged Robin passed away around 18:30 last night.

Robin had been very ill for a considerable time and confined to the home or bed for months past, finally succumbed to a variety of illnesses at last - nothing to do with Covid 19 whatsoever.

Rest in peace Robin, you had a good run!

Further to the above:

Francis' remains are due to be buried (I do not know the location) either Thursday or Friday this week, please note there will only be two people allowed at the interment due to Covid rules. Her funeral service will take place at a later date, when conditions allow.

Her Cypriot friend and acquaintance, who has guided and looked after her for the past 25 years, is fulfilling his promise to her that he would care for and look after her dogs for their entire lifetime. They will not be re-housed as they are happy where they are, knowing the arrangements that are in place and as a dog owner and lover myself, I am more than happy that they will see out their natural lives in peace and happiness! Worry not about the dogs, they are in very good hands and will remain so.

Very sorry to hear that, I used to read his posts with interest, I didn't always agree with him but he was very passionate in what he believed was correct. RIP, Robin.

We used to visit Robin a couple of times when we were on our usual holiday during December to March, she wasn’t very well in February and didn’t want us to visit. Anyone taking care of her dogs? She was very worried about leaving them behind.

I am so sad to hear about Francis, we communicated quite a lot by email, but I hadn’t heard from her for quite a while despite sending emails. She has lived in NC for well over 20 years and I used to see her occasionally when I lived in Ozankoy. I only got back in touch with her through Kibkom. She adored her dogs and I hope they will go to a loving home. So sad.

Ah that’s very sad.
We to used to visit Frances on occasion as she lived just round the corner from us in Ozanköy.

I had the odd exchange of words with her but I always thought she was a nice kind lady who obviously did an awful lot to give some of the unfortunate stray dogs out here a good home.

RIP

I do not know what is happening with the dogs she has left behind as yet. Her Turkish Cypriot friend and his staff who have been looking after her for the last few years are in charge of the whole proceedings from now on wards, as she had no relatives here. All relevant agencies and departments have been contacted and her remains have been removed to the mortuary. As far as I know her Cypriot friend is now waiting for contact from the Cemetery committee before anything else happens.

She was without doubt her own person and as an ex school teacher was probably the first of the "Punctuation" and "Grammar" police on this forum, a fact that made me very careful of any posts to her - lol. Precise and until her latter years pedantic to a fault she taught me things as well. I wish her well, wherever she may be, thank you Francis!!

I think at one time or another we all managed to "have words" with RR but it was fun!!! RIP Francis and hope you get to meet Edward Lear, the "owl and the pussy cat" man.

That's a shock!

I noticed that she had a short letter published in Saturday's Cyprus Today, headed 'Empty roads and Birdsong' and I thought "I haven't crossed swords with you recently..."

I did occasionally have fairly acrimonious exchanges with her, despite spending many hours via pm educating her in the ways of computers - I once called her 'A daft auld bat' when she confused me with someone else :)

She was a tireless campaigner for the disabled, and the 'Disability Matters' section of this forum came into being at her prompting - of course, 'it didn't quite suit', but then, things rarely did with Frances!

She will be missed.

RIP Frances Allen.

RR often came across as an acerbic and impatient person, but fought for people with disabilities and problems - the world will be poorer for losing her - R.I.P.

Frances asked me to use her name but I had to promise not to publish it on Kibkom! Frances wanted a folding walking stick but couldn’t at the time get one in NC so I took 4 from the UK she used one and gave the other three to Cheshire Homes. RIP Frances we will miss our visits and chats.

I shared this sad news on fb as I know a lot do not see Kibkom. Like me some are concerned about the dogs especially as one came from Famagusta shelter. Is there anyone able to find out please.

I didn't know RR, but she seemed a really feisty soul. Can't recall ever having "words" with her as some have. I did admire her for her determination, especially in the disability area. She will be sadly missed on this forum. I hope that she is at peace now, pain free and can just imagine her carrying on her campaign for a better life for all.

Had many robust discussions with RR over the years on many topics such as cats and dogs, moderation on the forum, traffic, disability matters and much more. She was a person who had her own point of view and fought her corner well.

I know in the past few months she posted rarely, however this news will come as a shock to many. She will definitely be a loss to the forum. May she rest in peace.

The first entry says that her Cypriot friend is fulfilling his promise to Frances to take care of her dogs for the rest of their lives.

I recollect a few dialogues with RR.
Her concise and challenging posts are not forgotten and she is a sad loss to this forum.

Good to hear that news, the dogs were her life even though they were uncontrollable when we visited.

Wow. I am now full of guilt, as I used to be closer to her than in the laST FEW YEARS. We both serve d on the Cheshire Home committee at one stage and I saw her tireless work for them. She had a great caring hear,t and was very intelligent to go with it. She didn't suffer fools gladly, but would gladly suffer for a 'fool' if it helped them. As I say, I feel riddled with guilt at 'neglecting' her as I feel I did, but my own life took a challenging turn or two and I did not keep up with somke of thing sin life as I should. I often visited her and we had very interesting conversations. I hope she has met up with my Alan as he too enjoyed conv ersations with her. Maybe it is naughty of me, but i don't like that Rest in Peace statement, as I am sure the last thing that Frances would have wanted was to end up doing nothing! Hopefully she has found some new tasks to be of value in her next phase of being. Farewell old friend - sorry I did not get to say goodbye.

To me the R.I.P relates to free of earthly pain and troubles and at another level and phase of your life you'll still be able to continue your discussions with her as if you had stopped mid sentence. Feeling guilty is a waste of your energies love.
