Government Handouts.

I wonder just how many people are being paid furlough plus the extra by their companies, who quite frankly are loving every minute i.e. being paid to stay at home on holiday. Not surprised there are many who are asking "is it safe for me to go back to work" I also wonder just how many companies large and small who have been given a life line by the Government in the form of assorted grants, who were were about to fall off the cliff regardless of Covid 19. Just an example, there has been a huge reduction on VAT which was supposed to be passed on to customers to encourage them to go out and spend but companies, cafes, restaurants etc are holding on to it as one owners said last week "it is not stipulated that we have to pass on to customers, so if it it helps us towards having to close for months, then so be it". The UK has been more than generous in handing out tax payers money (Us), and because of lack of staff I wonder how much checking up there was. Not sufficient I suspect.

This article explains the reduction in VAT and also states that it is not mandatory and why.

Sophie,
If it is TRNC related, which I suspect it is, why don't you do the sensible thing for all our sake and leave paradise and go back to UK or wherever? (:()) ((/)) ((W\)) . Please.
So you suspect a huge reduction in Vat is TRNC related😕

I’m sure there were a fair few companies which were clinging on, that the Coronavirus has finished off. Whether they may have survived long term I guess we will never know but an economic shutdown like we have/are experiencing will finish even healthy businesses. To survive companies are going to cut to the bone so be under no illusions we are going to see worldwide unemployment the likes of which we haven’t experienced since the thirties.

If in TRNC, that would be 'KDV' ;)

I am afraid there are a lot of people playing the system. My own manager was bought back from furlough to get the shop ready to open and then went sick with stress. I think he had enjoyed the 3 months+ on taxpayer handouts whilst playing on his X Box far too much.
