Do you think it will be taken notice of, anymore than the dozens of others we've signed over the years?
RoC still closes green !ine when it choses, TRNC not recognised, country still embargoed, Property issues still not resolved.

Agree with Kerry6138 - this is an illegal country, sorry if that hurts to state it and I don't like it anymore than anyone else. However, even though for dire humanitarian reasons, Turkey DID invade. Officially this is still a Greek country, as handed over on Independence from UK in 1961. So whilst it would be superb to have the embargo lifted, I can not see how we mere little cogs can get that done by signing petitions.

It was handed over to Greece, Cyprus was granted independence. Countries that have a colony don't generally hand it over to another country to have it as a colonysammydavis wrote: ↑Mon 27 Jul 2020 9:19 am

The UK took possession of Cyprus from Turkey if you are looking at the chain of ownership.
If you are looking at a country that it belongs to where most of the people who live there originate then native Qataris make up about 11% of their population.

Apologies for my previous inaccurate post; Cyprus I meant to say is a predominantly Greek speaking island, not that it belongs to Greece. Also I accept that it was a humanitarian intervention, rather than my rather harsh word, invasion. I do not have any Greek relatives. I lived and worked in Cyprus during the British rule, through the process of independence granting and into the early 1960s, so not entirely ignorant of events. I have great sympathy for the plight of the Turkish speaking Cypriots but am not at all sure that opening the border would benefit them, hence my words re signing the petition.
