Re: Lots of homes for sale in TRNC!
Friends of ours on entry had proof they owned a villa but could only get 30 day visa, had to go to Lefkosa to get the extra 60 days. We had proof from our Hotel we were staying 64 nights but could only have 30 days visa, as this applied to others in the Hotel they took the applications for extensions to Lefkosa and were given another 60 days.

Loads of really cheap properties to buy.
Residency is a doddle especially if you are over 60.
Phone tax is the same as paid by the locals.
State health insurance is cheap (retirees have not paid into the TRNC system) if a bit limited.
Cheap petrol and electricity.
Cheap TL balances the inflation somewhat anyway your income is £, presumably.
Fantastic raves to attend.
Lovely cats and dogs to adopt.
Sunshine.
For the relaxed it is a great place. Otherwise, try Pyongyang.
Just avoid the lawyers.

You didn't say that though and I understand now why it would make a difference. Thing is if left as posted by you it gives the wrong impression which when a new member is asking I am sure we would all prefer them to have an answer that is correct.

Dear Fiona
I am an unashamed swallow although I did live on this Island for 3 1/2 yrs in the mid 60's when I was young pilot in the RAF at Akrotiri. I have been in love with this wonderful place ever since. There are experiences which words do not adequately describe like the smell of the earth after the post-summer rains, the moonless night sky and a full blown night time thunderstorm preferably out to sea !
I have had property here since 1980 and my present villa since 1990. I chose the TRNC because I saw at first hand when I lived in Limassol how badly the Turkish Cypriots were being treated and wanted to give them my support; I still feel exactly the same.
Until the present restrictions my family and I have been coming 3 times a year since 1980 and , hopefully, will resume this when conditions permit.
Having said all that, it is undeniable that there are problems and frustrations with being a property owner here but if you love the place and the people they can be taken in your stride.
I think the advice to rent first is very sound and will give you time to make your own assessment about the people and the place.
I do hope you are not put off by some of the posts.

Maybe so, but when said by Billybondz it's goodbyeeeeee. By the way, I had an African grey parrot who used to say tadaar, tadaar, tadaar incessantly whenever either of us were on the phone.Trigger wrote: ↑Thu 30 Jul 2020 7:28 amIsn’t ‘tadaar’ what the late magician Paul Daniels used to say when he performed a magic trick, so in other words, ‘there you go’?frontalman wrote: ↑Thu 30 Jul 2020 6:08 amTo me Tadaar is goodbye in cockney speak - easy peasy. Funnily enough I agree with Waddo too, they must have changed his medication.

I used to talk to my dog but I've never 'phoned a parrot.

Sorry, I meant the wife and I, when I said us. Not me and the parrot. Apparently parrots never grow emotionally past the level of a three-year old child, so his craving for attention and insecurity wanted us to get off the phone, I assume.
