I know some VERY UNHAPPY people of that is the case. Were due to fly out here on Saturday and have just paid £300 to get what ever jab it is. They have changed their flights 3 times now and hoped to be in their villas Saturday evening, hoping to stay until end October. Its cost them mega bucks. They have been very long suffering and not moaned but what with Quarantine at the last minute and possibly losing their Saturday flights will push them over the edge. I know everyone is trying to be safe, but honestly some people have really had it hard both mentally and financially.

We were due to fly out to our home on Tuesday, this is the 3rd time we have changed our flight into Ercan, had our PCR's, cases packed and ready to go. We decided not to come at the last minute just in case things became worse, I think now that we have made the right decision. It is our home over there not holiday home but feel the hospitals and infrastructure are struggling under the strain already. Good luck and stay safe !!!

Well, not quite! ;)
According to the information received from the Director of Civil Aviation Department, Mustafa Sofi; With my note released, flights to TRNC were stopped from midnight to Sunday evening, September 13th. Stating that they did not release any notes on departures,
Sofi said that if the planes arrive empty, outbound flights can be made. Sofi stated that emergency flights, military and ambulance aircraft are exempted from this decision.

Well I am starting to feel somewhat imprisoned here to be honest. I will be happily proved wrong but I think the flights stopping will be extended beyond Sunday and think we are very close to further lock down measures.

JUST JOKING wish I wast there

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
Such a lovely face
They livin' it up at the Hotel California
What a nice surprise (what a nice surprise)
Bring your alibis
Mirrors on the ceiling
The pink champagne on ice
And she said, "We are all just prisoners here of our own device"
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember
I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax", said the night man
"We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave"

I am sure that the Government here would be glad of the free advice available from everyone about how to run the Country to keep us safe.

They have made sure that everyone goes into quarantine to try and stop the increase of cases here. As a result there is a shortage of Hotel places to stay. So what is it exactly that they should be doing then?

Whilst I do feel for people because of the constant changes I really do not see a way forward better than adapting to the situation as it evolves. Doing nothing has got us to where we are now with more infections daily. That could lead to a total lock down once more which would be a disaster for the Community as a whole financially. Who would want to be a Politician?

I think the simple answer to that is to enforce home quarantine, where people have a home which is what they should have done. I think a month in a hot sweaty prison would have been a great deterrent however to all intents and purposes home quarantine was not checked up on and even Cat c were down to 7 days home quarantine before the new rules. In theory this could be around until there is herd immunity or a vaccine, we have been waiting over 30 years for the latter for HIV despite being told at the time it was round the corner. Shield the vulnerable and let the rest go on with living.

TBF the advances they have made with HIV have been good. I know of someone who has been HIV positive for 26 years and counting in pretty good health. Had he have got it even a couple of years before it would have been a death sentence. They haven't eliminated it, after all they haven't eliminated the common cold, but they can extend life and give a quality of life

Actually I said it could be around until there is herd immunity or a vaccine. I used the HIV to demonstrate the vaccine may not be around the corner. Treatments will continue to improve but the virus will remain until one or the other happens. There is no desire to cure the common cold, it is not life threatening and cold remedies make a fortune.

And are we sure that the vaccine for covid 19 is going to work on say covid 20 or 21?

No and 'statistically' in terms of how previous viruses have behaved the chances are that a vaccine that provides immunity for covid-19 will not do so for covid-20. What we also do not know about covid-20 (and and) is if it will have characteristics that will result in a cataclysmic impact the likes of which has never been seen before. It is just random chance if this is the case or not as I understand it. The chance may be very very small indeed but if something happens enough times then such an outcome will eventually occur. Has to occur, statistically speaking. If you play Russian roulette with a 10,000 chamber gun and only one chamber with a bullet in it, 10,000 times you are statistically speaking guaranteed to blow your head off.

The chances are we are going to hit with a meteor one day or the sun will change enough to make life as we know it extinct. Or of course someone driving a car with a 1300cc engine might make all the difference.

Personally I'm up for living life as well as we can and letting children play with their friends

If the Earth formed at midnight and the present moment is the next midnight, 24 hours later, modern humans have been around since 11:59:59pm—1 second. And if human history itself spans 24 hours from one midnight to the next, 14 minutes represents the time since Christ.

We are seeing novel virus outbreaks every few years and it seems the frequency is increasing over time. Way more than meteor events and unlike meteor events it seems our actions influence this frequency. What characteristics they have in terms of how easily they spread and how lethal they are is random as I understand it.

Now for me the idea that our concern should be what is the statistical chance that a specific virus is going to be cataclysmic vs the cost to us of being cautious, is a perfectly logical position to take. It is however one that accepts that sooner or later, if we avoid other cataclysmic events, we will get hit by such a cataclysmic viral event. If you are happy with that , that is your choice. Personally I struggle with the idea that in order to reduce the impact on me and my generation as much of being cautious when a novel virus breaks out it means that down the line some cataclysmic viral event will happen. I personally see it more as my generations 'duty' to be willing to take a 'personal' hit when necessary in order to lead to a long term future that does not have to guarantee a cataclysmic event will happen down the road, should we avoid other disaster. I accept this is a matter of personal choice. I do not think someone with a different view is 'wrong' just they have a different perspective on the 'scale' of such things. Just worry about the here and now and this generation and not future ones, or not.

For the record and just so you know hedge-fund my personal policy on off topic is if the starter of a thread declares me off topic in their thread, then I will without argument or complaint stop that diversion and either create a new thread to carry the discussion on elsewhere or not as I feel like. If anyone else does so, other than admin or mod, I will just ignore it. Knowing this may save both of us some time.

If you have an issue with the content of a post, use the 'Report Post' function to draw a moderator's attention to the post.

DO NOT simply post repetitive complaints on the forum itself - moderators do not read, or even attempt to read every single post on the forum, so your complaint is quite likely to go unanswered.

So, if a post appears to break one of the forum rules, use the 'report post' function.

If the post does not break the rules of the forum, leave it alone!

Remember this; you are free to NOT READ the posts of any individual at any time!

There is even a facility on the forum, in the control panel, which you can use to ensure that you never, ever, see posts by specific individuals if you so choose...

{most} Inbound ones - military and cargo flights are excluded.

The announcement said that outgoing flights would be allowed to take people away from TRNC if they had 'arrived empty' - possibly by 'special arrangement', as I can't imagine many airlines deliberately flying empty planes here! — not that we have a lot of choice in that respect :)

So my friend who has a TA flight booked from Ercan next week should be worried that it will get cancelled?

From midnight all flights stopped until Sunday .

But your friend would be well advised to keep in constant touch with TA between now and his flight date, given the current climate of uncertainty!

I took a flightradar screenshot just now 22.18 on 11th Sept and 2 flights took off from ECN a short time ago. One TA to IST and the other PC to SAW.

I recall there was a stipulation that outbound flights could take off from ECN as long as the inbound flights had no passengers.

So there is hope for those that need to leave.

We called TA yesterday and they refunded our tickets booked for the 22nd without any fuss.
No way would we spend a week in a quarantine hotel, never mind £285 each for the pleasure.

I guess as long as Turkey is happy to pay civil service wages the TRNC is effectively closed for business.

Lockdown are great for those on fixed incomes/the work shy/elderly and sick, but I feel sorry for the rest of the population who are struggling to survive.

Flew out yesterday , Turkish Airlines 9 am flight to Istanbul no problem. TA sent an empty aircraft over to pick us up. Flight was full so that probably made it worth their while.

That’s why I was asking. Having said that, some airlines might increase their cargo load as an alternative.

This particular regulation, which was intended to allow time to free up spaces in the Quarantine Hotels, is due to expire on Sunday.

It may well be repeated at some point if poor planning or poor forecasting leads to a similar situation, we'll just have to wait and see. :)

Flights will now go from Wednesday

Thanks for that forestpixie - do you have a source for the info?

Did it say whether incoming travellers will be arriving Wednesday as well, or is that still set for Sunday?

Thank you 13roman58.

With a bit of luck, that should get the accommodation sorted out

Now when I said that, the thread got locked and moved to another section of the board more or less immediately! Seems once again there is a rule for some and different ones for others.

Agreed MVP, need to learn to live with this.

The Turkish Cypriot authorities announced they will not be allowing entry to foreign nationals flying into the north until Sunday as part of measures to contain the spread of coronavirus, reports said on Tuesday.

According to Turkish Cypriot news portal Yeni Duzen, that cites a ‘Notam’ issued by the ‘transport ministry’, Tymbou airport will be closed to passengers except for ‘TRNC citizens’ their spouses and their dependents between September 16 and 20.

The ‘ministry’ told the news portal that if spouses and children of Turkish Cypriots are foreign nationals, they will not be allowed in the plane unless they are accompanied by their spouse or parent.

Though no more explanations were given, it is believed this measure is aimed at decongesting the quarantine centres in the north since it follows the decision last week to temporarily halt inbound flights until Wednesday (September 16) due to inadequate quarantine space for arriving passengers. These people stay in hotels monitored by authorities.

Turkish Cypriot authorities require people arriving from category B countries to quarantine for seven days, and people from category C countries for 14 days. People testing positive to coronavirus are also quarantined as are their contacts.

There has been a spike in coronavirus cases in the north in recent weeks. Fourteen cases were reported yesterday bringing the total to 607.
