Covid in Cyprus?

I deliberately put Cyprus as the title as I am aware that this forum is read Island wide and do not wish replies to be restricted to either North or South - However, I would prefer replies to be limited to either non-Cypriot born citizens/holders of a permanent residency (including those who live here on a permanent basis with residency permits) but not those who are tourists or “Swallows”!

If I class all non-Cypriot born as Europeans please do not be offended if you are not from a European country (Australia, Canada, etc), I just needed a word that would encompass all others!

I have watched the rise and fall and rise again of infections in Cyprus, figures are readily available apart from one: Nationality!

My question is fairly simple then:

Is there anyone out there who can tell me, verification would be welcome, of any “European” living here permanently, who has either been tested positive, been hospitalised for or died from Covid 19 since March 2020?

Actually 'No' is the answer Waddo, nor do I know anyone in my UK base who has contracted, been hospitalised or has died of CV19 !!

Having had a response let me go further. I am not racist by any means, I have no religious nor political affiliations, I am of “relatively” sound mind and body - that is “relative to people I either know or am aware of Keith - lol - but I have an enquiring mind and a true thirst for knowledge!

From what I can piece together, it seems to me that when a foreigner, born in a foreign land, moves to a new country that has a different climate and takes to eating and drinking produce from that new country, they develop new and stronger immunity to many things over time!

Cyprus being a very small country by population yet totally different in both climate and cuisine would be a good example of this and thinking back many years myself, the things that used to effect my well being on the first year or so after arrival now do not!

Covid is a virus and a virus is constantly adapting to survive - could it be possible that such a virus, having first met a Cypriot, then adapted to attack that particular race and has not yet adapted to attack Europeans? Or is that just a stupid idea?

Not a stupid idea I know for a fact that many Cypriots suffer from low Vitamin D which according to some schools of thought makes you more susceptible to severe COVID symptons
It is generally thought that the virus was initially brought to TRNC by German tourists

Find that hard to believe as sunlight levitates any deficiency and there's plenty of that here!!

My understanding is that many, many people suffer with vitamin D deficiency as a result of the body not being able to convert the sunlight into vitamin D efficiently. Quite a common problem apparently. As always, happy to be corrected.

I would support the low vitamin D theory as well, this because of a Cypriot builder friend of mine - spends most of his life in the sun - has been diagnosed with low vitamin D himself and now takes regular vitamin D tablets to make up for it. In much the same way I take regular vitamin C, which is almost impossible to overdose with, because I am a smoker and smoking destroys vitamin C!

So regardless of the amount of sun he gets, his body never absorbs sufficient vitamin D. I thought he was just an odd case until recently but Cypriots are prone to vitamin D deficiency, even those living in UK!

Are you saying that it is SAD if you live in UK? If so that would not explain why my Cypriot friend living in UK is SAD all year round through? No humour intended but unavoidable given the name!
