All BARS closed until 1st October.
Just been to our favourite seaside restaurant / bar told no sitting at the bar.
Restaurant table service only.
Let's everyone help the staff with this problem by not questioning it and cooperative.

Re: All BARS closed until 1st October.
Does this mean that to get a drink, you must also eat?
I can understand the sitting at the table rule as it’s easier to SD.
What about the Olive Press. They have tables, but do not serve food. Will their bar have to close?
Korineum Golf Club. Will you be able to order a drink and no food?
I can see a lot of drinkers putting on weight!

Think back to the days of plastic sandwiches on Sundays as you had to eat to get a drink

My interpretation - 'guess'
- for what it's worth, is that the legislation hinges on the official status of the establishment, rather than what its customers consume.
So, a venue with an operating licence to conduct business as a restaurant will still be classified as a restaurant even if they have run out of food, and the chef has gone back to Uzbekistan to see his mother. Patrons will need to obey the rules about (not) standing at the bar, social distancing etc, and the serving staff will presumably be expected to 'wait on table'.
Just my own thoughts, but how else would the Police judge whether a place is a bar or a restaurant?

I guess, as soon as a drinker calls out "its the rozzers" when they see a Zabita car pull up, the rush to get off bar stools and plonk themselves down at a nearby table and chairs will resemble the wildebeests charging across half of Africa.

You are right, it was Ealing's reworking of 'the filth'....EnjoyingTheSun wrote: ↑Mon 21 Sep 2020 8:47 amEverything will turn into black and white as we seamlessly turn into an Ealing Studios Film!
Has anyone used the phrase the rozzers since 1951and even then was it used outside of films?

I would imagine any bar out here does food to some degree?Keithcaley wrote: ↑Mon 21 Sep 2020 7:22 amMy interpretation - 'guess'- for what it's worth, is that the legislation hinges on the official status of the establishment, rather than what its customers consume.

If the landlord put a saucer of olives on every table could that constitute the customers having food?
A very simple solution is the police make spot checks and if the establishment doesn't comply, instantly close it and fine it.
At least those businesses that are desperate to open and will obey the regulations will have a chance rather than the usual keep everyone after school solution.

As a kid I used to love to watch those black and white films with my parents after Sunday dinner.
My Dad would pipe up; "We queued for 3 hours to see this."
I would ask; "Why, it's total crap?"
"Didn't have much else to do, only so much cards you can play."

Went to a restaurant Saturday evening which was obeying all rules on masks, social distancing and signing in etc and had a chat with the owner. He said they have received NO instructions from the government on how to comply with rules that they don’t really know. You really couldn’t make it up,

Groucho, don't push it!!! Better than referring to the Police as "Pigs" or any of the other descriptions in the modern vernacular of the "yoof" in the UK.

Only in America. In the U.K. think it’s mainly middle class students who use that to sound edgy tbh

Old harbour bars open today though do serve food if wanted. So very quiet it was eerie and plenty of space to distance. Sad!

Born in Bermondsey.
Live a bit further out now towards Kent.
But still spend a lot of time with friends & family there and that's very much the descriptions of the police.

I always used Rotherhithe tunnel when going sarf of the river. Jamaica road was like a second home to me. You must remember seeing a silver Merc strutting its stuff.

Back to Pubs! Now that Pubs must close at 10pm can you imagine English city centres?? Chuck down as much as you can in the last couple of hours, then fall about in the streets, throwing up in the gutters and act like demented morons on speed, expecting to be picked up by the medics and taken to a safe place. Marvellous isn't it? At least Wales (?) say pubs can stay open but must stop serving. so at least customers can sit around to sober up a bit. No distancing or masks - that would be asking too much of course.

Apparently covid-19 only becomes contagious after 10pm. It has to rest during the day because, like Santa Claus, it tries to get to everyone over night.
