A secret service Belediyesi agent slipped a piece of paper under the cover of my water meter today saying " after your malfunctioning water meter has been changed by Lapta municipality etc" well news to me , thought the meter was working perfectly, bought credit , used credit, bought more credit, what's the problem? Stealth price increase ? Any one been down this well worn price increase track?

The huge water meter project by Lapta belidere, at great expense didn't work because they didn't purchase spares or maintenance contract.
They are going back to the old system of a person coming to read your meter.
Take the piece of paper and card into the new belidere office and they will credit your future account.

Believe me, you'll have far less problem and less errors with the old system. We've had "old system" for 15 plus years and its much more reliable.

At least with the new system when your credit ran out the water stopped. Under the old system I had a broken pipe caused by cows invading my garden. This cost me £200 for the leaked water ! Being a swallow, the new system suited me better.

That's a good point!

Mind you, you're probably safer turning off the water at the stopcock by the meter when you're not here...

I'd second that because sometimes the new meters don't switch off and end up showing a negative amount. This happened to a few people I know in Esentepe and they did have to pay for that usage.

I was working on the theory that everyone turned their mains off at the meter when away, regardless of the system being used.

Even if you don't have a broken pipe, there's always the problem of air in the system whizzing the meter around!

Resurrecting this thread to ask whether (since disabling/lobotomising smart meters) LAPTA Belediyesi are now charging a minimum amount for water even when none is used - as a "swallow", I've not been there/used any since last November, but when (out of curiosity) I checked my Lapta Bel. water account (via https://paypointcyprus.com/LAPTA), an amount of 154TL is showing (although my card was well in credit when I left!)....
(Or has a neighbour been stealing water out of my tank....? )
(Due to other major problems at the time, I suspect I did NOT turn off at the meter - but it could always be turned back on...)

Are you sure you have a separate water account? Mıne is lumped in with other services such as refuse collection and annually the property tax pops up.

Yes, I have receipts for property tax (emlak) and water (su) previously purchased which show account numbers - I've already paid my emlak online....

That will be the monthly standing charge that covers bin collection, street cleaning etc... which is approximately 18tl per month. So Dec to July works out at 144tl plus they probably have charged a small amount of interest for it not being paid monthly which would bring you to 154tl.

Many thanks; when I paid my emlak I thought about the above (and how to pay online?), and subsequently forgot again! When I last paid the bin charge back in April last year, I added extra to tide me over to autumn but due to other occurrences, I wasn't able to pay again - but as you calculated, that just about covers my "debt"!
So now that I know "Su" is not just water, I'll settle up!
Thanks again!
