I know 13roman58, when you open your PO box and see a pile of stuff (most official brown envelopes and monthly Mags) its really exciting isn't it. Sad aren't we.?
Just go into your local post office and ask if they have one going spare. Charge used to be 45tl per annum but I think its a bit more now. Had ours for donkeys years.
In Alsancak (don't know about other areas) if you include a local 'phone number as a line in your address, the postman will ring you or send a text when mail arrives - no need for a post box.
Thanks Sophie and Keith. I notice our barber has some numbered boxes in his shop any idea what they would be? I am guessing PO boxes from his but that is just a guess.
I know this has been discussed many times but I cannot remember which way round it is. Include Mersin 10 ir not?
KC, we have our PO box in Karaoglanoglu but live in Alsancak and as we go past the Post Office frequently its no problem. We checked both A and K out years ago and K guys seemed to be the most switched on. Also the cost of a stamp to UK was 1tl cheaper in K. (Don't ask why because I still don't believe what the bloke in Alsancak said, other than to say it was perfect TRNC logic)
I think that the Alsancak Post Office and staff have improved greatly in the last 18 months or so.
In the past, I used to despair - I remember being directed to rummage in a huge pile of unsorted post because they couldn't be bothered, or at least, that was the impression that I got!
The reason why it was 1tl more to post a letter to UK from Alsancak than Karaoglanoglu was that "the Post Office is further away from Girne, so it costs more" I suspect it was 1tl bonus by virtue of the fact he really wasn't keen on Brits at all and here always used to be a half repaired bike in the office and no one was very computer savvy. At the time, Karaoglanoglu won hands down.
