Don't forget that you will need someone to take it for an emissions test beforehand.

That would mean that you have to renew all the tyres for every MOT ?

...and make sure that they were 'new stock' at the point when you bought them - otherwise the manufacturing date on the tyre wall could result in a 'fail'...

I can't see that rule lasting very long - I hope!

I find that hard to believe as in uk they have 5 years to sell a new tyre

The Department for Transport has announced on 15 July 2020 that tyres aged 10 years or older will be banned on the front axles of lorries, buses and coaches using new laws. DVSA already checks for tyres over 10 years old during roadside enforcement stops.

Could end up with an awful lot of tyres having to be discarded, if the dates can be read accurately.

This is what my partner was told when he took my car. Cyprus and UK two different places. Could all change tomorrow.

I'm sure that if the human brain can work out a method of 're-treading' tyres, they can do other things...

A new set of tyres would probably double the value of a lot of cars here ,😅😅😅

My point being there is no way Cyprus would be more advance then the uk on safety in fact I would say they are at least 5 years behind.

So if you, as a classic car owner say drive approx 1000 miles a year you are now require to replace your tyres after 3000 miles. I don't think so, this is total rubbish. Just made up news.

I'm not disputing what forestpixie has said by any means, when my husband took our car 2 weeks ago, he was 'advised' to change the front tyres as they are over 10 years old (obviously still road worthing as it passed)

3 Years!!!

When did that come in?
I was told in a bar social distancing of course its commercial vehicles only and 10 years for private cars which may explain why even though we had all new tyres 18 months ago only 2 had to be replaced but as lorries and public transport have totally different tests (none??) I query his statement commercial vehicles do more miles and should be changed.

I think people should be accountable and responsible and every time rules like this come along it shows how we are revolving to not using our brains we were born with and being sheep

Mine is only a little Getz and definitely not a lorry. Of course this rule could change within the next 10 minutes ;-)

Took my car for MOT this morning. Main Tyres were new.
They then checked date on spare. Lights & brake lights.
Passed
On driving out of test centre noticed large new signs directing you to a Tyre Shop!!!
