Animal Welfare
A welcome proposal to amend the animal welfare law has been proposed according to the Gazette
this next bit was copied from facebook
"Real and legal persons will be able to submit their opinions and proposals to the Presidency of the Assembly in writing within twenty days regarding the proposal prepared by the Deputy Chairman of the Golden Paws Association Ülkü Curcioğlu and the artist, Fikri Karayel and presented by the Democrat Party (DP) Deputy of Nicosia, Serdar Denktaş.
According to the general justification, the law proposal aims to update the law that entered into force in 2013.
Although progress has been made with the law on some issues, the general justification of the law proposal, which is stated to be experiencing serious problems regarding animal rights, is as follows:
“This law proposal; It has been prepared in order to urgently rearrange the punishments for the killing or torture of animals, to increase the influence of Animal Rights Organizations in the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, to reconsider the use of euthanasia, and to rearrange fines and prison sentences in a deterrent and effective manner.
In addition, problems such as leaving animals to another town border, forest area or wildlife should be solved urgently. It is essential to take important steps such as increasing shelters, inspecting them by authorized veterinarians, and establishing a hotline for violations of animal rights".

Hopefully this will be passed and we can get a decent punishment for things like the shot dog in Esentepe that has been nearly blinded by some cruel individual

What is an English person doing with a gun here? Didn't know it was possible.

Re: Animal Welfare
Very good question Mark, it was allegedly an air rifle and the man in question is a neighbour who has done it before to another persons pet. (Allegedly)

Re: Animal Welfare
Apparently the dog is back in the vets as they can’t stop the internal bleeding and it may have to be put to sleep in the morning. The owner is posting on Facebook groups. I would be devastated if this were my dog. There is a plea for help with vet fees
I hope the law passes.

Re: Animal Welfare
Yes it is possible. One of the easiest things we did as there are very clear rules on how to obtain a gun and the various licences required.frontalman wrote: ↑Wed 14 Oct 2020 3:03 pmWhat is an English person doing with a gun here? Didn't know it was possible.
I really hope animal welfare is improved.
