Best to take your passport with you if you go to hospital

According to http://www.haberkktc.com/haber/kimliksi ... 58251.html from today Turkish Cypriots have to take their ID cards with them, that is if they want to be treated at government hospitals and clinics. In the report there is no information as to whether foreigners, or even mainlanders for that matter, are required to take ID with them, but it's probably best to take your passport with you.

Working on the theory that I don't take my PP with me anywhere (I'm sure it's safer not to) I find that everyone including hospitals accept the driving licence because it has my PP number on the reverse. Obviously this doesn't apply to tourists.

Sophie, having enquired more about the reasons behind this, I would agree that just showing your driving license is fine.

TCs were told to take their ID cards because there have been cases of mainlanders giving the names and ID numbers of TCs - you see TCs can receive free treatment at government hospitals.
Those foreigners (and that includes mainlanders) who don't pay National Insurance are required to pay for non-urgent treatment.

Having discussed the matter with my in-laws I would now agree with Sophie that taking just ones driving license is fine.
