Pipes for carrying water to Geçitköy arrive in Mağusa

The pipes that are to carry the water from the underwater pipes to the Geçitköy Reservoir have arrived in Mağusa on apparently the biggest ship ever to dock in a TRNC harbour.
Ali Çetin Amcaoğlu, the Minister of Agriculture and Natural Resources said that construction work for the resevoir would be completed by October 31st and predicted that by March 7th, 2014 the whole project would be completed.

If they are going to bring the pipes by road from Mağusa, they are certainly going to need some big lorries.

That shows commitment. The more money that is spent, the less likely the scheme will be abandoned. I'm feeling good about this. This could be a game changer once the GCs start to see that water coming ashore.

Yes, particularly if there are a couple of dry winters: the South would crave for a share in the ultimate natural resource.
It really looks as if the water project is on the last lap if not the home straight

It kinda reinforces the fact that Cyprus is much closer to Turkey than Greece, therefore, makes more sense for the island to keep it's Turkish roots.

Today the TRNC Lorrydrivers' Association blocked the road from the Mağusa docks preventing the transportation of pipes for the Geçitköy Reservoir. They are objecting to the fact that mainland haulage companies, such as the ones carrying the pipes, can operate freely in North Cyprus, whereas TRNC lorrydrivers can go no further than Mersin.
By the way, as far as I know, TRNC's only export is citrus fruits which have to be offloaded at warehouses in Mersin.

Would it not make more sense to ship them round the coast as far as possible before getting them onto the road? Wonder where they could offload them from the ship down at this end of the island?

Would make sense but first where could the shipdock and then how would the pipes be put on wagons. There is nowhere.
Saw two wagons going around Gonyeli roundabout yesterday so they must be getting the job moving.
