The Ministry of Health announced the vaccination program for citizens aged 80 and over.The statement made by the Ministry of Health is as follows:“Over 80 years of age vaccination program between 20.01. Coronavirus vaccine will be made.

Vaccination centers are as follows:

1- Pandemic Center 08.30 - 16.00
2- Girne Hospital 08.30-16.00
3- Güzelyurt Health Center 12.00-16.00
4- Yenierenköy Health Center 08.30- 16.00
5- Maraş Health Center 08.30-16.00 ″ 

Again it does say citizens, but could mean everyone. The Google translation isn't great, so hopefully we will get an English translation from somewhere soon

Girne Akçiçek Hospital Chief Physician Ceyhun Birinci said that 200 people over the age of 80 were vaccinated today and their vaccines were over.Stating that they will request new vaccines from the Ministry, Birinci stated that Girne and its region are under serious risk due to the increasing cases especially in recent days, and pointed out that health should be before the economy, pointing out that the Supreme Council of Health should make new decisions if necessary.

Not panicking and Hubby had jab this morning. I take back most of what I said, however I think timing is of the essence though, plus whether it is pouring down or not, because Reception in Girne is quite small.

1. Went into main entrance - Girne 11ish
2. Immediately on left is a small office.
3, People milling around all over the place
4. Security man approached and asked if we had come for vaccine (yes) and he gave us a piece of paper with number (70)
5. One or two tried to queue jump but they were sent back. I asked what number were they up to and answer was 65.
6. Called in after about 10 mins handed over Passport, nurse gave the jab, was handed a green card plus Passport showing that another jab was due on 28th February. Told to sit down outside for 15 minutes and then able to leave.

From the number It looked as if there was a rush when they opened (actually nearer 9am apparently) What some people don't realise was that the jab is only half way and that they couldn't just wander around minus mask and hand sanitisation for another 21 days or so. I hope that Health Department, make this clear. Otherwise all went well.

Excellent news and pleased for you (both?) well done with such a concise report which will no doubt help others who are yet to attend. We’re you asked or did you find out which vaccine you were given in the end please? Again my thanks for this information. I expected that this system would be similar to the new residency system that had fall downs and failures initially but it appears that the medical side has things mainly under control!

Waddo, on the green card you are given, it's clearly hand written Sinovac and a sticker next to it with a batch number printed. Its interesting to note about the second visit in February as I'd always believed Sinovac was a one off vaccine. We sat next to a very nice local who admitted that when they went go back to the 70's and 60's all might not be so smooth going!!!

Sophie, in the UK the advice is that even after having both jabs we still have to follow the rules! The vaccine takes a few weeks to kick in and give some immunity and we will still need masks for a while yet. I think hand sanitiser and washing hands should be the norm from now on.

Thanks for the information again. I am in the 70’s band and my wife in the 60’s (above 65 but I didn’t tell you) so we will see what happens next - lol. For sure I will wait till we can both go together anyway. Remember it is not a cure, it is just to minimise the effects of the virus should you catch it, so it is still masks, sanitiser and distance I am afraid. Good luck!

That's it Waddo, a bit like the flu injection, you can still catch it, but the effects shouldn't be so bad. We'll just all have to wait until it's our turn. Important to get healthcare workers and the most vulnerable sorted out first.

Chriswright03, I sat outside and watched Hubby have the five minute procedure, but to be honest I didn't actually notice whether the guy on the computer actually looked for residency stamp, from what could see all he seemed to do was check on the age. BTW, typing error in that Hubby has go back for second jab on 22nd February, not 28th. Sorry.

If you are a 'qualifying age' then I would be inclined to use a photocopy/scan/photo of your old passport, as long as you have a clear readable copy. Alternatively a driving licence will state your age. A local driving licence also has your passport number on it.

KC, Chriswright03 said he'd sent his old passport away as well. I agree, if your applicable age is called (as mine will be next) take your driving licence with you. No-one mentioned residency . yesterday, but I couldn't be sure that the bloke on the computer didn't glance at it, but age seemed to be the most important.

Sophie and Keith thanks for the replies. I had to use our driving licences the other day to get a Muhtar's letter for the return of the passports as I had left the passports at home. He accepted that and as you rightly say Keith most of the information is on there. Certainly worth a try.

Chris, My memory is rubbish but I guess you did your residency then had a stamp put in your passport? If you followed the normal path via the police and then the web site to let you know when your residency was ready then you should be able to log back in and print off the copy of your residency permit?????

I think that bit stays live till the next residency date and then it is cleared so you can re-apply so it should be there. If you can then your passport problem will be solved as your passport number and everything else will be on the permit!

Just a thought and probably wrong but worth a shot?

Waddo my memory is rubbish as well but our residency was done before all of this online malarkey.

I see today they are saying that there is an appointment system running now for the over 80's but you have to call in to A & E to book one. Also saying that the online form is merely to give the Government an idea as to the numbers of vaccines they require. So I guess as many as possible need to fill the form in.

Chris, Never thought of that, but worth an idea - lol. Read that there are no more vaccines left now till the next batch arrives from Turkey, maybe next week. Have already registered (twice) so there should be a couple of spares anyway. Will wander into A&E sometime next week to register for an appointment but it looks like by the time they drop down to the 66 and 73 year olds I will be in the over 80’s group - lol. On the bright side, it also means that Sinovac will be fully approved by everyone and no chance of growing a third ear or something - lol. Take care out there and stay safe!
