When do you think you will next return?

Last year, we always knew that we wouldn’t get there in the summer and winter and wrote it off early doors. Always thought this summer was a more realistic goal, however, we are starting to doubt if that is even realistic.

Are we destined for another summer of no tourism or do you think some travelling, perhaps if you have been vaccinated, will be permitted?

Sad times, but hey ho, at least I have my health so mustn’t grumble too much. Hope everyone else is keeping safe out there or wherever you are based.

If your thinking of those from U.K. no one knows when things will be relaxed and certainly at the moment no one is allowed to leave the country. Even with vaccinations there is no guarantee. I know of a couple of people only through holiday forums who have booked for September hotel only but not their flights.

Not necessarily just from the UK.

Just wondering people’s thoughts on think there being any form of travelling this summer, I guess.

Getting back to normal will probably take 3/4 years at least in my opinion, however, I do think travelling with restrictions such as isolation / quarantine / vaccination / physical distance etc will have to start up before then.

My Turkish friends in hotel are saying hotels open April/may. Erdogan will be keen to get turkey up and running and it's just a matter of time that quarantine will be dropped for proof of vaccine.

For the UK:

I managed to get to TRNC in August last year and stayed till mid October. Had to have a pre flight test & home quarantine.

I've got a flight into ECN booked for mid May this year and fully expect to be on it. Hoping that a vaccine certificate & negative test will suffice.

It was Dec 2019 when we were last in the TRNC. All travel last year cancelled. No flights booked for this year as we sit, watch and wait to see how things develop both here in the U.K. and the TRNC.

Hopeful for September/October when we will have received our vaccinations. We accept that even then it’s likely a PCR test and quarantine of some sort may be needed.

I'd rather have quashed hope than nothing to look forward to.

I'm flying to TRNC in May.

Watch this space.

I think April / May, maybe a tad optimistic.... hope I am wrong though.

No, we have nothing booked. We are too waiting to see how things develop. Not much of a holiday if we have to do two weeks quarantine on arrival and perhaps another 2 on return... plus all of the added risk etc. Just not worth it, for as much as are missing our lovely little home in North Cyprus.

It is going to be an interesting few months, watching how the virus reacts to the vaccine. Crazy things viruses when you think about it. It takes a species like man thousands of years to evolve in order to get stronger.... viruses can do it in days! Let’s just hope things suddenly change for the better and we can start returning to some sort of normality.

Have a safe weekend everyone.

I think a lot depends on how many vaccines arrive from turkey and vaccinate the over 50s and then maybe hotel workers. I think we are up to 100000 vaccines so 50000 people. I seem to remember they are planning to vaccinate 300000 people. So we need another 500000. I think end of may looks possible if the number of vaccines received is accelerated. The economy is so dependant on tourism and students I believe then the doors will be flung open. Don't forget the virus significantly reduced last year even before vaccination in April onwards for warmer weather . I think people are being over cautious like the UK authorities. But that's just my opinion maybe I am over optimistic.

I feel very sorry for my friends resident in Northern Cyorus who have not been able to see their families, some with elderly parents, in the U.K. for so long and have no prospect of that changing for some time.

I'm a little confused about whether people understand the point of the vaccine. It will not stop you getting covid but will simply stop you getting a really bad case of it, stopping you from needing hospital treatment.
Currently from what I can gather is most contries are vaccinating the highest risk groups to lower the probability of hospital bed overloading.
So with this in mind low risk groups (under fifties or children with no underlying conditions) may not be getting vaccinated till October or even later this year so unable to get a vaccination certificate and would be unable to travel.
Even though an unvaccinated low risk person has probably a lower risk of being hospitalised than a fully vaccinated high risk one.

Thank you Dang. I have lost count of the number of people who don't seem to be able to grasp the concept of the vaccines on offer.

We usually stay 3 months December to March at the Pia Bella, this is the first time in 14 years we have been in the UK at this time of the year, we have had our jabs and realise that this is only a protection and doesn’t stop us getting the virus so no way will we travel until it is safe to do so, hopefully this will be before December. We haven’t done our own shopping since September last year our Daughter brings us the shopping and leaves it at the door we haven’t seen the rest of our family since September only on FaceTime it’s been a very difficult time for us but at least up to now we have escaped the virus. Here’s to looking forward to getting back to normal and visit NC again. 🤞🤞🤞

Maybe only over 50s will need a vaccine passport to travel So that they don't risk overburdening the destination hospital. If people are still going to be carriers then the only use of the vaccine is to reduce sickness for the elderly and the virus is here to stay then unless they are going to close countries forever might as well just have an age related scheme.

Being married to a bio chemist, I do understand how the vaccine works, hence the fact that I said about a range of measures being needed, not just vaccination.

The truth of the matter is, we cannot all just live cocooned in our own little bubbles for the next 3/4 years, it is just not sustainable. At some point, restrictions will need to be eased, obviously, in a sensible way.

What if you are particularly vulnerable though age or underlying health issues? How bad a case of it might you need to require hospital treatment?

Hopefully after vaccination that is something old and vulnerable people will no longer have to worry about.

Hopefully but I have some reservations that won’t be the case in the numbers we are hoping for

The UK vaccine roll out is proving very successful and so we can expect the virus can be beaten earlier within the UK than other countries.

This does not mean that travel restrictions globally will halt. These decisions will of course be driven by individual positions upon vaccine roll out and their own battle status against the virus.
Certainly tourism and hospitality are extremely important revenue streams and the desire to open is clear. Some , I fear will, will open up too hastily.
There appears to be no unified strategy for vaccine passports or testing regimes. Perhaps guidance will come via the WHO. The risks are clearly there currently and yes the hope is we come out of this soon but not too soon as to let the virus re group and attack again.

Cheers.

My flight is 17th May so I'm hoping the world looks a lot different by then.

Suggestions of home self isolation coming back by then if no vaccinations but we'll see.

I think I'll get a UK one by end March/start of April but it looks like the TRNC will insist on 2 vaccinations to avoid quarantine/isolation.

There is talk of private jabs being available from next month so that may be an option.

It sounds as if things are starting to move in a positive direction. However, as my old footballing mates always say, it’s the hope that I cannot stand.
