Good to see the cafes restaurants can use their outside areas to serve their customers.
OK still a curfew but who would want to eat outside at 8:30pm at this time of year. Food would go cold too quickly for me.

Plus the newsagents for Sunday newspapers, which luckily had sweets, small bar of dairy milk and a sherbet fountain 6d in total, on a Sunday when Gran and Grandad were staying for the weekend.
Don't know if it's still like that in the Western Isles, but it was maybe around 15-20 years ago when we visited friends in North Uist, but no newsagents opened.

I have a very clear memory of the new decimal currency coming out but no memory of using the old pennys etc

Ha ha ha, we had up to the 12 times table learned by heart, so it wasn't a problem, was definitely the 3 R's back in the day.

Obviously the usual folk have gone off topic the fact is people are suffering through the lockdown.. its not funny even though some seem to be making a joke of it. This is peoples livelihoods for heaven's sake. Bellapais for one example is dead... have a bit of respect and compassion instead of spouting rubbish. Actually have to say, much as I don't wish to, but typically brits. So sad some on this forum.

I think we are all looking forward to filling the bars and restaurants again and I can't see any posters on this thread or any other making jokes at the expense of any bars or restaurants - the owners/managers of which are friends of many posters on here.

Many of us are only too aware of the plight of many here. I have great sympathy for the locals who have had no money let alone the essentials that they cannot afford. That doesn't mean that we should be morose and not make the most of what is a terrible situation. If we can lighten the mood a little is there any real harm in that?

I for one will be very happy when we can go out and enjoy a nice meal at our favourite places once more. I will be more than happy to leave a generous tip for the staff as well but I still reserve the right to smile at rubbish posted on here. I think that is far better than the persistent circular arguments that 'some' on here seem addicted to.

Just because some of still retain the ability to smile in the face of adversity does not mean we neither appreciate the poor situation many find themselves in or are insensitive and to suggest that is unfair.

MrsGee, definitely not taking this lockdown as a joke, it's far from that, and we are all so aware of how people are struggling both financially and mentally. I doubt many of us have seen this kind of situation before ever in our lifetime, and all looking forward to getting back to some kind of life, not stuck at home and supporting local businesses.

As is the case in normal conversation, it drifts from one subject to another with just one little comment changing the course, the same happens on forums. As for having a bit of light relief, it's good for you. I'd much rather have a smile, than a face like a skelped backside and be whingeing at every turn. So don't think that a little bit of reminiscing, which is what happened here, is in any way, not taking the subject of people suffering seriously. Am sure that many of us are helping out in our local communities as best we can, without blowing trumpets about it.

alphamike, with you all the way and can't wait to start spending some money in coffee houses, shoe shops where I can try them on, et al. I can tell some of the shop keepers were really catching a real cold as well. The store I have always bought electrical items from actually apologised yesterday because they couldn't offer me their usual discount (which I didn't expect or ask for).
