UK online passport renewal question

I am in the process of renewing my passport and have sucessfully submitted an application-I will be using Dagli Sigorta's DHL service.
The UKPA website says I have to return my old passport, and one of the original following documents from the last 12 months-

'And 1 of the following from the last 12 months, that shows your name and address and/or residency:

letter from your employer
medical card
letter from your local council or a government department
voter’s card
visa or residence permit (a colour photocopy will do)
education record for example a school report
immigration documents'

It also say lower down that the document needs to be in English, and if not you need to get a certified translation.
The only document I have that would appear to qualify is my residency stamp in my old passport, but this was issues in October 2019,and runs until October this year.

How have other Kibkommer's dealt with this?-I looked on the BRS website ,and trawled through old posts on here re passport renewal but cannot find anything.

Just get a Muhtar's letter. That will suffice despite the advice I received from the passport office. We sent our old passports and the letter via DHL with the assistance of Sears Estate Agents in Catalkoy and they assured me that the letter in Turkish without any translation at all would be fine and it was,#.

We told the UK authorities and the Muhtar had the same authority as a Mayor (!!) and they were fine with it. Obviously some people have been deleted from the UK requirement because three years ago, they also asked for a Mayor, or Bank Manager or GP.

On a similar thyme, my passport runs out in October this year and my current residency permit is in the passport. Does anyone know approx when i should start to do the renewal process? I will be using one of the companies out here to do the renewal but dont have a clue as to when to do it. I know it will have to be done before i next renew residency which will also be in October. Do you get the old passport back when you get your new one?

When does your residency run out?
I believe you can renew your passport up to 6 months before it's expiry so I guess time it around when you don't need it for travel or official purposes like renewing your residency.
Yes you do get your old passport back and I would suggest keeping it and taking with with you for the first renewal of stuff that you did with your old passport such as residency and driving licence.

A U.K. passport can be renewed at any time before expiry BUT you will lose any time which was left on the old passport.

So if your passport is due for renewal say on 1st October 2021 and you renew it on 1st April 2021 (6 months early) then your new passport will start from 1st April and your old one will be deemed to have expired on 31st March. That is, you have “lost” 6 months.

But some countries require you to have at least six months left on your passport before allowing you to enter.

It’s not strictly true to say you have “lost” 6 months on your passport. The rules changed back in 2018 that what was left on your old passport would be added. No longer the case.

So renewing your passport now, as you have said in your last paragraph, you need 6 months to be left depending upon where you go.. So regardless of wherever you go, it’s just best to have 6 months left on passport to save wondering what to do.

I disagree - but we may be simply talking semantics.

Let me give another example:

Passport due for renewal on 1st February 2022
Actually renewed on 1st February 2021
New passport start date is 1st February 2021
Old passport classed as “expired” on 31st January 2022 - 12 months early

So I would class that as 12 months “lost” - your old passport was only valid for 9 years rather than 10 (if a 10 year passport).

As you rightly say the rules changed in 2018, as I understand it in preparation for Brexit. Prior to that you could “carry forward” up to 9 months (I believe) of your old passport on to the new.

I understand you can only start the on line renewal 21 days before it expires.

Yes you do get your old passports back. If you do it through one of the agents here they will send your old passports via DHL and they are returned separately to your new ones. It takes about 8 weeks in total.

Just renewed. Concerned as everyone was saying about a delay etc. Old one would run out in August, the new one will run out the day we applied in February 2031 We applied online ourselves , uploaded the photo using their system. Really impressed with them as new passport was processed within 3 days of them receiving the old passport and back here within a month. We sent no other documentation maybe I uploaded something i can not recall but nobody else was involved. Old passport still awaiting delivery eventhough I enclosed an address label its at larnaca.

Thanks for the replies,I eventually found there is a 'Text Chat' helpline on the passport web site.I explained the situation, and was told that my visa stamp in my old passport(which is in English) would suffice even though it was issued more than 12 months ago as it is still current. In addition to that I suggested I enclose a copy of my most recent electricity bill as it is in English and Turkish, and confirms my name and address -The UKPA rep confirmed to me that these two items would suffice as proof of ID and residency.
The online chat system allows you to keep a transcript,so I will be printing this out and sending it with my old passport, along with a covering letter.I will of course take copies of my old passport before sending along with copy of visa stamp just in case I need it before my old passport is returned.
Hopefully this will do the trick (fingers crossed!)
