Rhubarb/Parsnips/Swedes

3 things I really miss here are rhubarb. swedes and parsnips - although Ileli usually have some parsnips around Christmas time.

I am going to try growing them this year and I wondered if anybody else has tried. Have you any useful advice and particlarly a recommendation for the best variety to try?

I brought a rhubarb crown back from the UK, it appeared to do very well, I put it into some very well manured ground (double depth). Unfortunately, I was unable to give it sufficient water in the periods I was away and it died. Am determined to try again though. In the UK we always grew our rhubarb at either end of the compost heap. This ensured that the roots could get underneath it and it stayed wet enough. It also meant it had a continuous supply of nutrition.

Parsnips definitely needs a frost on them, otherwise they are tasteless, so I don't think it would be worth attempting to grow them here.

I planted rhubarb in a corner in the shade when I lived in ozankoy, It produced 3 sticks before it died due to the heat.
We had plenty of water from our well.
