How to remove some contacts on the Skype contact list

I've just had to reinstall an ancient Skype account (present one just vanished after a Microsoft update) but don't want loads of the contacts. Have Googled the question but nothing seems to work. Any idea?

Open Skype.
Navigate to Settings.
Navigate to Contacts.
Navigate to Privacy.
Under PROFILE, click View list.
Alphabetical list of contacts appears here.
To the right of each contact are three dots. Click on the three dots and two choices appear:
Delete contact or View profile.
