An event at Jashans, Lapta raised 11,800 for the Alsancak Freedom Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary, which is the brainchild of local businesswoman Nulten Oral aims to provide a safe haven for dogs, particularly those that have issues which would make it unlikely for them to be found a home.

The event was a resounding success, with every table booked in advance.

Special Mentions are due to Mark, Jeremy and Michael for running the Raffle (as well as for feeding the dogs at the Sanctuary day in, day out) & to the irrepressible Dave Mancini for raising unbelievable amounts by auctioning items ranging from a packet of Jammy Dodgers (375 TL if memory serves me right!!!) to a pair of animated Teddy bears that sang The Teddy Bears Picnic.

Thanks also to Catherine Hayes for Making and Donating so many craft items - Catherine and her sister Barbara Ball together contributed around 3,500 TL of the total - a totally awesome effort.

Laura provided the entertainment for the whole evening, free of charge, despite being visibly pregnant - I don't know where she finds the energy ;)

The Staff and Management of Jashans did a brilliant job of keeping us fed and watered, and shared the profit with the Sanctuary.

Just to be clear, my only involvement was turning up, buying raffle tickets and eating the food :)

I do agree that all concerned deserve congratulations, which is the reason for this thread.

I believe it was a pack of 10 Jaffa cakes that were auctioned, alongside 3 paintings, a table runner, a dog bed, and the two teddy bears. He definitely worked hard to sell them.
The numerous donations for the raffle were also fantastic, and the method of randomly selecting the prize and then drawing the ticket added to the fun of the evening when people won something they wanted, or maybe didn't, or even something that they had donated themselves...

Fantastic to read this, even in times of hardship for so many, people are still able to support this venture for the dogs
