Hotels that get started to build....... but not finished
Had a drive to near Diana beach today, the two tower crains are gone, it looks like another big building project has ground to a halt, not unlike the big one further along the coast at Shana (?) Beach.

I really can’t work out the business model with construction out here. They build and build and seem to barely sell a quarter of what they build. Either it’s a way to bury money or they must get a lot of grants because it can’t be turning a profit

They are concreting over Greek land to make it more difficult to recover. This was why there was an explosion of building just before the referendum.

Have you noticed the price of steel of late? Are you aware of the al OST total lack of available building materials, even down to simple pipe fittings, screws and “DIY” type materials? Everything, across the board, has gone up in price over the last six months and continues to do so, regardless of availability?
Prior to Covid the tourism sector - the life blood of the country - was doing well and its future prospects were excellent, now in sad decline it will not need the new hotels for a number of years. The industry can’t afford to keep throwing money into a hole in the ground and that may, this time, be half of the problem.

No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

Those in the know said 2 yrs ago that the hotel at shayna was stopped because the concrete used was mixed up with sea water because its free and that led to it being unstable so there it sits.

Deniz1, as far as I know that also included the sand (beach sand) used in the making of the concrete at the plant on site as well. It was around the same time that some of the best fishing spots were closed off as well, not been back there since!
I often wonder about the law they passed here years ago that said something like “If a building skeleton was not completed within 5 years, i.e. bare concrete plastered and sealed, then it would have to be torn down and could not be completed due to concrete and inner steel erosion”, guess that one slipped through the cracks!

A reliable source who works at Diana beach cafe told us the constructors had run out of money. Kind of makes sense

If the 5 year unfinished rule were enforced, <moderated> folly at Bogaz (Skyline) would be first for demolition. At least 15 years abandoned(ish)
