Plants/trees to grow in NCyprus

Has anyone successfully grown Acers, Cherry trees, Laburnums here? do they need a shady position to manage the intense heat of summer?

I was told that cherry trees will grow if in the mountains where weather is cooler. Tried to grow in Gecitkale (Mesaoria Plain) without success as heat is too harsh.

It's odd because my plum tree has grown really well and produced lots of fruit yet it is right out in the open garden with no shade. Cherry is the same genus I think. Its more for the blossom than the fruit re cherry.
