A friend needed to extend her visa for another 30 days; off she went to central police in Nicosia but they couldn't/wouldn't do it for some reason and sent her to Kyrenia police. She showed her ins and outs and the police gave the permission and provided a stamped and franked form showing the 30 days, so far so good.
On Saturday at Metehan the border police told her her permission wasn't valid as it hadn't been stamped into her passport and fined her over 4,000TL for overstaying. She paid as the alternative was to miss her flight.
Something's not right here, especially given that someone else I know went to immigration back in August and had no problems and nothing entered into his passport.
Be careful.

Re: Warning re visa extentions
When will this country start doing "joined up computers" and when will individual police officers stop making up the rules as they go on. Its a disgraceful situation and one which they need to resolve pdq.

It certainly is and gives a pretty poor message.
Why could they not revert to stamping the bit of paper as evidence?

frugal90, I suspect the powers that be don't consider it modern or tech enough. It means they would have to admit what they did yonks ago worked perfectly well!!
