Travelling Times within N. Cyprus
I am realising just how much of a hermit I have been for the last two or three years, and how much things have changed.
For the benefit of a forthcoming first time visitor, can some kind person tell me the approximate times from Girne to:
Guzelyurt
Gazimagusa
Karpas - say Iskele
Many thanks
Iskele to Aposolos Andreas
With any road conditions (improvements, roadworks or poor conditions0 to be particularly aware of.
Small Standard saloon car, experienced but careful drivers.
Many thanks

When going to Apostolos Andreas from Girne, you do not need to go to Iskele. The North coast road is very easy and quick and (don't turn off for Büyükonnuk, carry on and turn off to Balalan and follow the signs to Dipkarpaz/Apostolos Andreas. Our friend takes 1 1/4 hours from Catalköy to Dipkarpaz. From there another 1/2 hour to Apostolos Andreas

There are roadworks somewhere along the road to Apostolos Andreas, but not much of a holdup. Not sure how far they have got to now

We went to Karpas yesterday, around 1hr 45 from Lapta. It was a beautiful day and we saw again the majestic beauty of the Cyprus that we fell in love with twenty years ago, stunning scenery and quiet roads.
From Girne I would think it would take about hour to Guzelyurt and probably almost 2 hours to Gazimagusa.

If travelling from Girne to Gazi Magusa, try driving down the coast road until you reach the t junction sign posted left for Tatlisu and right for Gazi Magusa. Drive over the mountain and then when you come to the cross roads go straight over onto the new road. When you reach the second crossroads turn left and this will bring you out at the roundabout in Gazi Magusa turn right to get to the old city. This is an easy drive and much more scenic. From Esentepe it takes less than an hour to do this journey.

Thanks all for your info. I used to visit the Karpas, taking in St. Barnabas en route and stopping for llunch at Boğas - and - trying to show a visitor as much as poss - was thinking of doing that, and maybe coming back the other way - or vice versa.
One problem is I suffer from vertigo - and did the route via Tatlisu two years or so ago. The road was unfinished and the unprotected drops over ravines were terrifying - have they put in crash barriers now?
Dippers Girl - I will be in touch , if I may, when my friend's plans are clearer as I may want advice on places to stay (she wants typical Cypriot) and the tractor safari if it is reinstated by June.

I do the driving in NC and in Dec we went to Bogas via Tatlisu it was a lovely drive, I can't remember if there were crash barriers but the road is finished and good to travel on. I don't like heights either I can go as far as the restaurant on the way up to Kantara Castle but I dither about going to the top, I say everytime we go up there I will go to the top next time. When we go to Guzulyart we call in to the Blue House and then travel back round the coast road bringing us out near the night clubs.

Re: Travelling Times within N. Cyprus
It once took me 4 hours to get from the 'corner house bar' (on foot) to my home in lower Ozankoy.
Though to be fair it was 1am and I took a wrong turn and tripped over a wall, couldn't find my way out of the field I was In so I had a little sleep.
Eventually, after a stray dog had mated with my leg (twice) I eventually arrived home at 5 am.
Hope this helps.

Hi Phil - nice to see you are still with us! However I think I could manage that very well myself without any help thank you - except Ive lived n lower Ozankoy for l5 years, and I cant work out where the field is! Just think yourself lucky it was a dog , not a herd of sheep and goats. Next time call for help and Ill tie a barrel of brandy round one of my dogs necks and sent him to find you!
While I am on does anyone know if there is a map of the TRNC which show the newer roads - just realised mine at least fiveyears old are hopelessly out of date. I know there is a Dutch gentleman who does maps on the internet, but I can only print A4 and I need a larger scale.

I have very good maps here and I know they are also being sold in Girne. I friend of our produced them. I attach a picture of it to help you find it. You can buy a Karpaz one or one of the whole island. I do have copies here for sale, if anybody is travelling to Dipkarpaz
