Mail TRNC to UK
Christmas/Birthday mail posted in Karaoglanoglu during last week in November 2021 is still arriving in dribs and drabs in UK. Never had that much problem in the the past. I've always allowed for three week maximum. Covid to blame again do you think?

Re: Mail TRNC to UK
Tried to send two parcels in December - No can do we were told - the contract with the airlines had run out and no parcels could be sent to UK. Went South this month to find that from 1/1/22 you need to have a number to send a parcel to the UK from Cyprus because the UK is not in the EU anymore (thank you again Brexit)!
Apparently all the details you need were printed in the Cyprus Mail some time back but if you Google sending a parcel to the UK from Cyprus you can still pick it up. Then off you go to the Cyprus Mail web page and spend many happy minutes/hours trying to figure out if you can send one to the UK and what you are allowed to send before you apply for a "Number" to print on the parcel. Don't go to the post office in the South without first having received your number or you will waste your time.
Next month we will try to send it from the North again - lol.

Re: Mail TRNC to UK
Just sent the information to my wife so she can read it and fill it all in to get the "number" to print on the parcel before we go South and try again - BIG mistake - she is still flying around the ceiling in the kitchen telling anyone within earshot about the stupidity of Brexit/the EU/The RoC etc, etc. Time for an early Brandy and a hide out in the office I think - lol.
Cured the problem with Birthday/Christmas cards etc - e-cards are the easy answer to all of that and they get there as well! What's more they save on stamps, trees and stupidity.
From now on I think the answer to presents is just to buy on line from the UK for delivery in the UK - getting too old for all this hassle.

Oh dear, you would have been very popular. I've always bought presents online for delivery to UK from UK websites. Some don't like it though, seeing that I am in Cyprus and put prices in euros and no option to change location, which is a right pain in the butt, so have to use VPN.

Actually I wasn't talking about presents, just envelopes. I was so cross to learn cards were arriving weeks and weeks late, that my morning coffee had a large wallop of whiskey in it. Cuppa this afternoon, had the same, but I'm still seething.

That was good for over the Xmas period, considering how many Post Office workers were off with Covid. Even before the pandemic, a letter with a second class stamp on can take a week or more. It’s the way it is, not sure what you were expecting, miracles don’t happen in U.K.

Certainly not like old days in UK, remember when you used to get 2 mail deliveries a day. Now, I am showing my age!

Wasn't expecting miracles Dalartokat, but neither was I expecting November to 27th January either. I already had cards and if I had thought about it I would have posted 1st week in November rather than the last. But as one recipient said "nice to receive an envelope that wasn't brown or a circular"!!

My reply was to “Gates” hence his post in quotes.
Post to and from NC and U.K. has always been a problem way back to my days in 1997. As said, there were extra problems at Xmas due to Covid. Think you should be planning sending xmas cards in October, you might stand a better chance.
Things certainly ain’t what they used to be in U.K.

I know is probably daft to the send or received post, but there is something special about opening an envelope. What I should have pointed out in the OP, was that the mail from UK to here has arrived safely (all but one and that was posted in UK on around 20th December) I bang on to family and others about using the Post Code and it seems to have worked this year.

Re: Mail TRNC to UK
I think unfortunately for the "GPO" Post as we knew it in the old days. My uncle used to post me a 10 shilling note (yes i am old!!!) In the morning and i would get in the early afternoon. 2 deliveries a day. But now a days technology has moved on an we all send text messages or emails so i think the days of sending letters and cards will shortly come to sn dnd. I am not sure about parcels as i have seen on my tv box there is a company (or maybe more than 1) who collect or deliver cheaper than the post office. Its sad that the post office is not doing so well as it was (maybe i could be wrong) the oldest delivery service in England. But technolgy, I wish i could keep up i just need to gind that 5 year old that can sort out my phone!!
