Re: New Traffic Fines
No mention of losing your licence for drink driving disgusting. It kills people.

Re: New Traffic Fines
It would be up to the court to decide length of ban for traffic offences. The list published, purely relates to the increase in fines. Obviously courts can add losing licence/imprisonment for more serious offences, such as drunk driving.

Re: New Traffic Fines
Blimey waiting to cross the road on Friday, I could have made thousands of tl for them. In one short session (phones, a car jump red light, dumping rubbish, and waited for someone to let me cross zebra crossing). Took my life in my own hands eventually, even when light showed I could cross. Its OK to set these laws, but getting the police to enforce them - regardless of whose relative they are, is another matter.

What about carrying young standing children in the footwell or between seats? I see no fine for that!

Re: New Traffic Fines
Funnily enough I read another article yesterday with a new set of fines which are more than the ones I originally posted. The amount for drink driving is a lot more than in the original post.
Traffic fines have also been updated with the entry into force of the new minimum wage.
According to the new regulation in effect as of January 28; People who do not comply with traffic signs and lights will pay a fine of 1400 TL.
Persons who use mobile phones while driving, who drive without inspection and navigation, will have to pay a fine of 700 TL if they are detected.
People who are found to be driving with alcohol will face fines between 3500 TL and 7000 TL.
Those who exceed the speed limit will pay a fine between 700 TL and 1750 TL.
THE PENALTY IS HERE:
Using a mobile phone while driving: 700 TL
Driving without inspection: 700 TL
Driving without navigation: 700 TL
Driving without insurance: 1750 TL
Driving without a seat belt: 350 TL
Driving with an expired driving license: 700 TL
Failure to comply with traffic signs and lights: 1400 TL
Drinking and driving:
* 51 -100 promile: 3500 TL
* Over 100 promil: 7000 thousand TL
Exceeding the speed limit:
* 1-20 km (both included): 700 TL
* 21-40 km (40 km due): 1050 TL
* Over 40 km: 1750 TL

Re: New Traffic Fines
I drove into Girne via the Karaoglanoglu bye-pass about 12.30ish yesterday and I've NEVER seen so many drivers obeying the speed limits, no over taking and even down to 30 at two roundabouts. The fact that police had pulled over 7 cars up towards Ezic Premier was another factor. No cameras, just drivers standing there with paper work in their hands.

Re: New Traffic Fines
BB, If the increase in fines has a small part in that behaviour, all to the good, we shall just have to wait and see.
I think that in the case of drunk driving as well as fine/loss of licence, the vehicle should be confiscated. The prospect of losing that, may make some consider their habits a bit more and drive responsibly.
