The arsonist will be detained for 3 days!
The police officer investigating the arson case of Paddi Longs Bar Restaurant in Alsancak said in his statement at the court that Micheal Patrick Murphy was charged with arson, threats of violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, and drunkenness.
Explaining that the suspect, who is quiet in Karşıyaka, consumed excessive alcohol at Paddi Longs Bar Restaurant in Alsancak, which was managed by Karl Long, and harassed the business manager JMU, first verbally and then manually, at around 21.45 yesterday evening, the investigation officer said that the suspect left the restaurant. While being taken out, he threatened the manager with death and burning the business down.

The investigator said that the same venue was set on fire at 00:10 this morning, while it was closed, and that Murphy, who threatened the establishment, was identified and arrested in Alsancak as part of the investigation.

The investigator noted that the saloon vehicle with the plate number HM 409, registered in the name of the subject person, was found abandoned close to the scene, and that there was no indication.

The investigator requested 3 days of detention against the suspect so that the investigation could be carried out safely.

The court pointed out that the investigation has just begun and that the issue is a serious crime that requires trial in a heavy penal court, and a 3-day detention order was given against the suspect.

Seems the offender has quite the history of arson and violence together with a warrant for his arrest in Cork.

Obviously we do not know if this man is the guilty party or not, and innocent until proven guilty etc.

My heart goes out to the owners and workers of the establishment, they must be distraught. I really hope that they can get back on their feet in such difficult times.

If indeed this person is the guilty party, I just wonder how long this person has been in TRNC, whether on a holiday or being resident. If on holiday, that is one thing, but if resident, I thought that a police check would need to be done in your home country, or is that just for buying a property? I am well aware of fugitives being here in the past, just wondering if things have been tightened up any.

I've never heard of a police check being done for anything other than certain jobs, I got one for teaching and that was done here.. go figure. There is a lot of stuff floating around on fb including a video of him being very abusive and shouting he has access to shotguns. He's been detained for a further 3 days so it seems it is indeed him.

The man has been remanded to central jail Lefcosa today . He is Guilty and admitted his guilt for Arson ,as for the threats to kill and several other charges , well you can all make up your own mind here on the threats to kill if you wish ?

The building is destroyed and will have to be knocked down and rebuilt.

No police check if you apply to be a resident only if you wish to buy a property.
