Our dear people, Poisonous foods have been thrown around by unknown people in the areas of Çatalköy Laden, Buffavento Emtan and Sea Vista. Our municipality has taken necessary measures and the incident has been transferred to the authorities. It is important that all our citizens be careful in order to protect our animal friends during this process.

Now the only problem is to get anyone to "whistleblow" on the person concerned. Some years ago there was a similar situation on Karsiyaka/Lapta border and people, including locals/belediye, knew who the culprit was, but no-one would confirm it to the Police and the police said they wanted pictures or an eye witness report of the person setting the poison. After months of trying to all went to nothing. I really hope you have more success.

Our dear people;
First of all, we would like to let you know that the news published in one of our local newspapers today that 40-50 animal friends were found dead in Çatalköy is completely baseless. On Monday, a sensitive citizen informed our municipality that there are poisonous foods around. Our municipality directed our police unit to the region on the same day and the incident was reported to our Girne Judicial Branch Police. In the investigation carried out with the police in the area, we did not find any dead animal friends. In short, we would like to announce to all the public that the news of 40-50 dead animal friends in Çatalköy mentioned in the news does not reflect the truth.

I am sorry . When the first announcement by the Catalkoy Belediyesi was posted there was a post in answer to them confirming that dead cats had been found on the site they lived on.
This has happened before on the same site where some of my friends live. A dog who was cared for was poisoned as were numerous cats. Heartbreaking.. People on the site know who has done this. Any action taken by the authorities when informed?. None.
The Mayor of Girne has made a public announcement condeming the poisoning of street animals and has asked for care and compassion to be shown to these innocents.
Karsiyaka, Alsancak and other area's have had postings about so many animals being poisoned.
What is happening here? Please?
These cruel and dispicable actions by some ''inhuman'' person/s have made me so upset, angry and worthless because what can I do or anyone else if the authorities are choosing to turn a blind eye.
Animals are not worthless. They live, breathe and have feelings and show love just like SOME of us 'humans'.

As someone who has rescued a dog via KAR, I appreciate how you feel.

However; I am not passing judgement on this incident as I have not been involved personally so cannot confirm. I am just passing on the details from the Belediyesi.

As someone who has rescued five dogs from KAR I understand how POD feels. But to quote the famous Mandy Rice Davies "they would say that wouldn't they" re the Belediyesi who rarely admit to having poisoned animals within their area, it just doesn't fit their image does it?

Just a thought, as the Belediye said no poison could be found and no dead animals could be found it is possible that there is Parvo in the area. If anyone finds a dead animal or animals, it would be better to take photos, collect any evidence in the area and take at least one of the dead animals to a veterinary clinic to be tested for poison.
Street animals can die very quickly from diseases like Parvo especially when it is hot as they dehydrate quickly.
If there is a disease spreading this is equally as important to know and notify people so that pets especially can be vaccinated against it.

The Belediye is trying to be responsible by advising people of possible poisoning but without clear evidence this may not be the case.

There was a similar report on social media about poisoning in Karaoglanoglu of cats but I have yet to find anyone with proof that this happened and none were taken to my local vet clinic.
If you think an animal has been poisoned PLEASE take it to your nearest veterinary clinic so it can be tested and provided as evidence.
DO NOT just report your suspicions on social media it isn't helpful.
