Cat in our garden has had 4 kittens, she's only young herself so would like to prevent it happening again, are there free neuturing vets in the area or do I just take her to the local vet ?
Thanks

Garfields in Alsancak do a reduced fee if you yell them that it is not yours but a street cat.

Speak to KAR who just ask for a donation. Mother can't be done until kittens are weaned .
Other animal charities Hope for Pets, Furry Friends.
Kittens can mate at a very early age so that also needs sorting.

Ah, so she lives in your garden & you feed her...

She's your cat!

You need to take her to a vet and pay the going price, I'm afraid - the sponsored deals at the Vets are for actual street cats that no one takes care of.

Good for you for looking after this little cat, you're obviously a very kind, caring person.

Now get your wallet out and .... :) :) :)

I would suggest that this is a (commonly held) misconception - the correct wording should be "you are her person/servant/slave"....
"she is your dog" is a perfectly reasonable assumption and statement.
It should be noted that the Ancient Egyptians recognised this fact and worshipped Bast as a goddess in the form of a lioness and later a cat.
It is a fact that they also worshipped Anubis - but only as a man with the head of a dog (or jackal)....

Most vets give a discount for a street animal, they appreciate you care enough to keep the population down. I am now on my 53rd cat in 3 years!! And no they are not mine, the street all feeds them but I seem to be the only one who catches them and neuters them. Admittedly I do give them scraps and leftover food my fussy tenant leaves

Ah c'mon Keith,

I feed roughly 14 cats every day because otherwise they would go hungry. They are not my cats and never will be. I approached both KAR and Garfield re. spaying/neutering. Still waiting for KAR to get back to me after 18 months. Garfield told me that people were no longer donating so they could not help. I told Mark Gladwin that. However in the meantime, to save the young females cats from the trauma of having kittens at 5 months old, I have personally paid for them to be spayed. So if it is only street cats that nobody takes care of that are the only cats that benefit from this scheme. Who is it that actually cares enough to take them to the vet?

Jolly good!

Well done!

...and if you think THAT was rude, you don't get out enough ;)

Seriously, the Vets like Garfields that do neuter street dogs and cats at no charge (to the person bringing them in) are supported by donations so anyone interested in supporting this cause, could you please pop along to Garfields with as much cash as you can spare, and say that it's for the Street animal neutering scheme...

Also, Jeremy Muncer organises a Quiz every Friday at the Açmenya ın Alsancak - approx 18:00 start, in aid of the neutering scheme, there's a raffle as well with donated prizes - if you do donate a prize, you're quite likely to win your own item back! :) :) :)

See you there!

I'm no Saint! I just hate the smell of spraying toms, noise of cats fighting and seeing struggling kittens. When we come home at night I park in the middle of the road to stop anyone running over the swarm which greets us. Gary has to get out and stand in the middle of the road to ensure those behind me while I park they see a large object in the road. I reassure him they won't run him over!!!

So, can anyone in the know comment on the 'Nobody donates, so we don't do it any more' answer that I got at Garfield's?

I've already paid for the cats' neutering at my vet's place, Tunc Oncan in Girne but would still like to know the situation regarding 'Street cats' and Garfield.

DarkAli - Fırstly my conversation was with ginge in response to the query about free cat neutering - you chose to jump in and criticise me although it didn't involve you at all.

I don't know or care what animals you feed or where you feed them nor whether you pay the vet bills or not - everything isn't about YOU, you know!

ailletoo - I've had a reply from Jeremy Muncer who set the scheme up with Garfields and he said "Tell her, that they were wrong to have said what they did. At this moment in time nobody needs to be turned away. If she has any problems call me".

I won't put his 'phone number on the forum without his permission (although it may be on Facebook?), but if anyone has any problems in this regard, feel free to text or whatsapp me on 0533 830 18 35 and I'll pass the message and your number on to Jeremy.

If anyone is actually in such dire straits that they cannot afford treatment for their animal, please let me know - I'll see if there's anything that can be done.

Garfields charges 400tl for street cats and clips the corner of one ear so out can tell it's been done. He's very quick I've had 6 done but one little sh1t I can't catch keeps bringing its kittens in.

Thank you Keith,

I didn't have a need for the neutering at that time, I just wanted to know how it worked. I have since had several cats from my garden neutered but in no way was I going back to Garfields. I travel to Girne to Tunc Oncan who is a great vet and gives generous discount for neutering street cats/dogs.
