Car Tax 1 day with monthly insurance

I think that says it all. So you now have to stop every time you go over to get a new car tax certificate even with a months insurance. I dont think those issuing are impressed with the new workload.

Yep - how stupid - you can buy insurance for a month and only get a day car tax! Means that people can’t go for weekends any more etc

If we go over now taxi to Lidl etc taxi back to thr Ull and Bear shop on Ladrashort walk to car park by the mosque. 2 or 3 sharing it's easy .

On Monday last poor old grumpy and his mate were back to writing out the TOM by hand on a small form! Asked why it had to be that a TRNC vehicle owned by a non EU citizen could only get a maximum of 16 hours permission to drive in the RoC and he told me it was EU law. Try as I might I can’t find any EU law or Schengen regulation that states that! He also said it was not 16 hours but 24 hours, I pointed out that he is not open till 08:00 and that the TOM expires at 23:59 on day of issue and got the Cyprus shrug in reply! I guess it is just another Brexit effect and the RoC shooting itself in the wallet but it won’t stop me going. So off we went, having had our passports scanned in first. Shopping finished we drove down to Dhekalia for fish & chips then came back via the Pyla SBA crossing point. Now as the SBA do not scan passports in or out I guess we are still in the RoC?
Funny old thing but the last time - 90 days ago - we came back to the North our passports were not scanned out of the RoC either. Effectively, we never left but we’re still allowed to return - yet another case of lip service on entry requirements, 90/180 rule and EU discrimination laws! I suppose it all makes sense to somebody but when it comes down to it, then it is horses for courses and never forget - this is Cyprus! I wonder if non EU citizens can take a TRNC registered hire car into the RoC and if so for how long?

Off subject a little.. does that mean you can effectively go shopping via Pyla and return without the 90 day rule.
Even though I've used the 90 day rule and have to wait another 90 days.
Presume that just means the soft border and not the airport's

susiesusie, You can't get vehicle insurance without a TOM, you can only get a TOM at Metahan and only valid for 1 day. Even if you get your TOM today and then go shopping tomorrow via Pyla your insurance will be invalid because your TOM has run out - catch 22! Of course you could just shop in Lidl by crossing at Pyla and staying in the SBA as they do not check for vehicle documentation because they are Customs Officers not Police Officers. But as soon as you come off the A3 into Lidl you have left the SBA as well. As for the 90 day rule, the SBA should/used to issue you with a 90 day chit to make you legal - they also told me that when it runs out just come back for another one - lol.

The airports/seaports are a totally different ball game and the rules are rigid!

It's a good game and fun if you don't get upset - after all it is not our country is it?
