Out of date Water bottles
Yesterday we started to use someone who will replace our empty water bottles as and when required. We had four left over from the last time we picked up our own and he wouldn't take two of them because they were out of date. He showed us what to look for on the bottom and they were produced in 2014. He suggested we take them back to where we purchased them, but as it was two weeks ago and have no receipt it seems pointless. However, he said we should take them back, just to let the shop know that people are aware! I'm sure our local supermarket can't be the only place that doesn't bother to check goods being supplied.
Off topic I know, but the bad old days of lack of stock control is well and truly back. Last week I watched two shelf stackers pushing dozens and dozens of jars to the back of a shelf, and replace with dozens of new stock.
Sadly I can't name and shame any longer on both issues can I. Crazy situation.

You could just wash the bottled out yourselves and use the water dispensers outside many shops . They dispense the lids as well ..and cheaper at 7 TL

SS, its nothing to do with cleaning them out, its the fact that water is still being sold in 8 year old containers PLASTIC that have been used and reused and stood out in the sun etc for heaven only knows how long.

Re: Out of date Water bottles
My new water supplier says that Stores, garages of whatever, have a duty NOT to buy or sell on to the public any out of date bottles because of the cancer causing content of the chemicals involved in producing the bottles and so 8 years is well out of date.!!!

If you want to get the plastic recycled (ie not use it as a water bottle any more) there are collection points for out of date bottles and other plastic for recycling.
Karmi have a collection point but I don't know where you are located.
If you want to PM me I can arrange to collect from you if too far from Karmi

Old ones are good for catching water from A/C units in summer for garden use.

I saw in either Cyprus Today or what was Cyprus Star a few years ago, a School or University i think it was or at least some sort or organisation, they were cutting the necks off these bottles making sure there were no sharp edges left and then putting little blankets in for cats to shelter in during rain and sleep in.

Leesterpolfus. I'll try, hope it makes sense.
1. Turn bottle upside down
2. Among all the writing on the bottom is a circle about the size of a fifty pence piece.
3. If you look carefully, you can see the numbers 1 - 12 all the way round it i.e. 12 months.
4. In the centre is an arrow which points to one of the numbers., in my case a 6 which indicates June.
5. To the left of the arrow will be a number, in my case a 1 which indicates a year
6. On the right of the arrow will be another number, in my case a 4 which indicates a year
IN OTHER WORDS, ONE BOTTLE WAS PRODUCED IN JUNE 2014, the other, using the same method was August 2017
Problem being reading the imprints on the base of bottle in the shop.
Hope this helps?

Re: Out of date Water bottles
I had this problem a few years ago. My friend, who was canteen manager told me to use EVSU and gave their number. We do not have a car, so I asked them if they could deliver and they said yes. The man was very nice and helpful. He showed me how to check the date. He even found and delivered us Schweppes Tonic 1l bottles, as this was tricky to get in Dipkarpaz at the time. When we moved to Famagusta, this man organised for me to get deliveries there. All bottles look newish and when I check the date, it is perfect. I don't know if I pay a bit more, but we don't mind, when the service is perfect!!!

Re: Out of date Water bottles
I bought a water bottle this summer - tried to get a refill only a week later and they refused it. Seems some people are selling out of date bottles.

Re: Out of date Water bottles
Manyworlds, that s precisely my point the stores don't care and they work on the theory that customers won't check. problem you could face is some of the stores etc will only replace the make you bought in the first place. About 3 years or so, some of them actually wanted sight of your receipt as proof. That didn't last for more than 2 or 3 weeks.
Re: Out of date Water bottles
Good advice. How long are the water bottles legally 'in date" 6 months, 1 year?

Re: Out of date Water bottles
Hector, I spoke to my water man and he confirms that 5 years back from the month you purchased the bottle is the maximum. More than that he advises you stand your ground and refuse to accept anything older. Trouble being whoever is on the checkout won't have any authority and Manager will probably give you a load of BS cos he obtains the water from a relative or something.
