Which part of cyprus (Karpaz?? As that is nearer to Syria). Any damage on the island?

Well I certainly felt and heard it in Tatlisu, although didn't know what it was, but I was up and awake at the time. Another friend nearby was woken up with dogs going nuts, mine slept through it. No damage to my knowledge. Watching the sea was fabulous though, helped by the full moon.

There's a volleyball team from Lefkoşa Türk Maarıf Kolej who were playing in a tournament in Adiyaman. Apparently the hotel they were staying in has collapsed ... and the parents haven't heard anything from their children ...

We were in Ercan airport while they were there waiting for their plane, happy go lucky boys and girls with big smiles on their faces, we hope and pray they are all safe and well.

Have seen a post on the North Cyprus Heartbeat FB which advises they are safe and well.

Obviously the situation is confusing but hopefully this is positive news.

Belediyesi's are all collecting. Requesting warm clothing, blankets, pillows, jackets, canned food, baby clothing, nappies and female hygiene products.

You have to deliver the blankets, clothes etc to the old Lapta Belideyesi building, not to the new one.

Next earthquake Adana hatay karpaz..doesn't really state any timescales I don't think it's an exact science . I noticed today on lgc news 3 earthquakes in the karpaz c 4.5 on the Richter scale .

I'm simply relaying the kibris gazette article it's in Turkish so I presume you could read it . I'm fully aware of the situation my wife is from elbistan and many of her relatives have lost their home and worse .

Of course, it doesn't really matter which school the children are from, but they're actually from Mağusa Maarıf Kolej, not Lefkoşa Maarıf Kolej.

It is indeed confusing Posh, and it's likely I added to that confusion by writing Lefkoşa Maarıf Kolej and not Mağusa Maarıf Kolej. However, the latest news is that only 5 of the group staying in the hotel have been rescued ... and unfortunately, including parents and teachers, there were 39 of them. One of our friends is watching developments very closely, because his cousin's daughter is one of those under the rubble.

Had a message from brs to say you can donate boxes of clothes good etc for free. They will sent to turkey. But what about syria. They have also been hit by earthquake. How can we deliver to syria.

SandP, Sadly I feel that Syria will be pushed down the Worlds thoughts. They are a pariah state, with only Russian and China supporting them. The most corrupt Government in this part of the world, and have been waring amongst themselves for years and the world has lost patience I suspecct. I think the Kurds will suffer the same fate. It's absolutely tragic. As you say, TRNC postal service and Turkish postal service will take boxes up to 20Kg, FOC, but I'm sure Syria will be ignored and I've seen nothing as yet on the web, as to how to send help them. Perhaps their Embassy web site in London will have something?

Thanks for that. I don't why I didn't think of Al Jazeera myself. The numbers of dead as of today is 15,000 according the Brit T.V but most of the time they continue to give the impression it's just Turkish numbers.

It’s over that number and obviously rising, believe that includes Syria but not sure. I wouldn’t have thought they could keep up with statistics at the moment.

I think other TV coverage is live as well, but not sure. I have signed up to Al Jazeera as it's good to see both sides of the divide. They are certainly suffering dreadfully because of lack of heavy machinery and expertise. Bare hands are not what is needed at a time like this and there is other information but nothing FOC (at least I couldn't see any as yet)

As was mentioned on the BRS site. Took 2 boxes of clothing and a few other bits to post office in Girne. Boxrs securely taped up and big sign on top. Lady staryed to cut open boxes and go through everything. Everything was washed and ironed and folded nicely. After going through everything.she said, we cant accept clothes that have been worn it all has to be new. Take to beledeyesi. I took to the old beli the lady said no new beli. Went there lady said we will go through everything and send some to turkey and keep some for here. I tried to log on to BRS but it wouldnt let me.

S&P, I think it's absolutely nuts to be insisting that items have to be new. So long as things are serviceable and warm, not something that you'd toss in the bin, what difference does it make? I can understand Girne Bele holding things back for here though, as there are refugees coming here.
On saying that, I have heard of really inappropriate items such as swimwear, summer clothing, and things that you would put in the bin being donated. I just don't understand how some peoples minds work.

Think of those who have lost, or are still hoping to find someone alive. i doubt anyone in need would give a fig as to whether a blanket, coat or anything else would be brand new or 2nd hand.
