Starting at 3pm this Sunday (May 6th) there will be a "street festival" in the Ledra Palace UN buffer zone to celebrate the first birthday of the internationally-supported "Home For Cooperation", a organisation set up to promote "intercommunal cooperation".

The organisation's web-site is :
http://www.home4cooperation.info/

A Facebook page for Sunday's festivities can be found at :
http://www.facebook.com/events/283259851760548/
If, by any chance, you are unable to see that facebook page, then allow me to paste the details (about the festival) here :

***********************************

The 6th May 2012 marks the 1st birthday of the Home for Cooperation (H4C)
and the Association for Historical Dialogue & Research (AHDR) is planning a
truly memorable celebration, with a street festival which will take place
... at the H4C from 3pm.

The festival will include a host of activities for all to enjoy, including
bike tours of Nicosia, games, painting and graffiti activities, laughter
yoga, live music, and other surprises! See the attached documents for
further details.

Be part of this historic event by joining us for the celebrations and help
us make the 6th May truly unforgettable!

*************************************

For the record, it's nothing to do with me, I am merely forwarding the info to you guys.

Well Marion, I get to hear of these events because I occasionally run with the (south-side) Nicosia Hash House Harriers, and my fellow hashers are always posting details of such events on our yahoogroup.

That's great Ian. So do keep the info comin g, because I feel all these bicomunnal events are great. By the way you could always join the Funky Knits - a Monday afternoon Knitting group with 'needles across the border'. Now that IS something I heard of. And that is in the Home of Co-operation.

this is weird. No one from EMAA that holds meetings at the Home has been invited; My friend Ayten who runs Funky Knits every week at the Home has not been invited - nekither knew about it, so is all the advertising in the south? Weird. Maybe I won't bother to go if they can't be nice to the nice people that I know. I would have thought they would have notified anyone with any connection with the place. Ah well, 'this is Cyprus'

Marion,
I agree - you would have expected those two people to have at least known about the event - clearly N4C are not that competent when it comes to marketting and public relations.
In their defence, you can see from the 1000 or so "invited" (on the Facebook page) that roughy 1/3 were Turks or Turkish Cypriots ... with roughly another 1/3 being GCs.
So, I think that not inviting your TC friends and acquaintances was merely an oversight.
In any case, my TC in-laws and I will be there. Hope to see you there too

Hi again,
I wrote above that 1/3 of those "invited" on the Facebook page were TCs or Turks ... however, what with mainland Turks not being able to cross to the south, I presume they are also not allowed to enter the buffer zone.
In any case, everyone else is very much invited ... and the fun starts at 3pm today ... see you there

Ah, so it was a Facebook invitation. That is probably why the two people to whom I spoke wereunaware, and indeed me. I rarely sign up to organisations (just one or two) and I doubt my friends do. end of mystery.

Saldy I never got there. Ran out of time. and you are correct, no turks allowed in the bfufer zone - passport problems - although having said tha,t I wonder if our lot WOULD let them through. it is just that they cannot go further into the south. I admit to not knowing, but maybe they can. It might be an idea for me to try and find out for future reference, so I could invite people to come with me to any events there. Hope you enjoyed it.
