smoke in Lapta????
Gosh, does anyone know what is causing this. Was going to take a drive, but it's thick.
This won't do the ashma sufferers any good.

No, I was looking but couldn't see where it was coming from, just a general area, but your right, it was very thick and smelly

Re: smoke in Lapta????
thick grey Jonnie, didn't do my hayfever a lot of good. Even with the windows and shutters closed, my house still reeks.
It seems to have cleared now, but really scarey thing is, what the heck were they burning?
It looked like it came from the Lapta tip area, certainly along and above Olive Paradise.

I am led to believe they were burning tyres! Not the best way to get rid of them. There are other uses and the fumes given off are pretty aweful!

Did not look like burning tyre smoke, I think that half of Lapta would have been evacuated due to acrid smoke

It definitely wasn,t burning tyres, that would have been a very obvious smell, it was more like wood burning or something along those lines.

From the main road it looked like a builder was burning off the trees and scrub to save money before building work commenced. But no builder would do such a thing!!!!!

Re: smoke in Lapta????
sorry to disappoint but it was the Lapta Tip and as there were people there i assumed carrying out controlled burning. Admittedly a practise stopped in the uk but as I know we are not in the UK which i really am starting to wish others did too. sorry last comment off topic.

Oh good. It will be more pleasant for the people living close to the tip now. A small price to pay to get rid of all the smells and rubbish that
had been dumped. So the mayor is keeping his word,

And there was me thinking it was a dig at the alleged pub that allegedly allows alleged illegal smoking of cigarettes!
Seriously while normally I would agree with messages 10 (OT or not) and 11, as one increasingly concerned about the plight of the vulnerable in society I cant help feeling it would have been better to have given warning so those with relevant health problems could have taken precautions.

Hi,
the fire was lit by council workers to burn prunings,so they say, at lapta tip.it was burning all day and night, the fire brigade came late at night, and where back on thursday. if you visit http://www.grumpybrits.com you will find photo's and video showing it was plastic, rubber and household waste, video 6 shows this well, you can also hear the wind and fire noise, this covered our house in acrid smoke which gradually crept inside, we have a seven year old son with asthma, his mum had to sleep with him that night to help with his inhaler. Thursday spent all day cleaning the ash and plastic and rubber particles off the villa, have you ever had to wash a villa ? the pool is full of ash , everything is black if you touch it.I cannot understand why you would light a fire on such a windy day ?Instead of taking the prunings to the tip to be burnt, why don't they take the chipper to the prunnings and chip small amount onsite which people can use in their own gardens. Please look at the photo's to get a real feel for the extent and danger of this fire.

Crumbs Tony, I take back what I said in my post (11), not such a small price hey?
Good luck with the clean up, you poor things.
My family live right by the tip, and have had to endure huge problems over the past year.
RR, you do like your little digs, re the alleged pub allowing alleged smoking...... maybe you'd like to ask Soner to close this post aswell?

Crazy to be burning rubbish at all to be honest, it cannot be good for the environment. Its also a bit bonkers when they let it get out of control. Has anyone actually tried to get a permit to have a bonfire in their garden?
Perhaps as a bit of fun Mods there could be a "Saucer of Milk award" for the most catty comment of the week!
