Bringing a UK registered car into North Cyprus and back

Hi wonder if anyone can help.

Has anyone pretty recently brought a UK registered car from the UK to North Cyprus and back to the UK within the 90 day period.

I have been to the port authority in Girne harbour explains that I want to bring my car to North Cyprus, the answer was yes but you will have to park it up at the port and go your own way.
Explaining that we have been a swallow here for lots of years and never gone over the 90 day rule, have a TRNC driving licence, our deeds for the house.
She that said you must go to Girne police station and get a statement of your ins and outs in the last 2 years, (She must have meant when you arrive here get a taxi or a friend take you to the police station)
Speaking with someone who transported their car over in a container, he said yes this is correct. He stated you can run your car over here on British plates, car must have good tax and test for the period, and you can set up a 2-3 months insurance before you arrive. You cannot travel with a lot of petrol in the car whilst crossing.
Now is their anyone who has done this recently and can confirm this? Please no guessing?
