I use Wise costs just over £4 irrespective of amount, TEB costs not worth mentioning. Not sure if you have a wise account?

You could transfer money from your UK bank account using Western Union, through Post office link for £1.90. You pick it up at a branch of Iktisat bank. You will need to register with Western Union for this. There was a limit of £4000 per transaction, but last time I did a trial run it came up as £8000. I've used this a few times, but not for a while. You have to make an appointment at Iktisat bank.

Yes it can be different to and from different countries. Last time I used the service it was a max of £4000 fro UK to here. I asked why different limits for different countries at Iktisat bank and was told the limit was set by Western Union. Teller told me that the limit from some African countries was so much lower (not that I have looked into it.)a1sysman wrote: ↑Tue 25 Apr 2023 6:13 am

I use wise, and have never paid as little as £4.00, .... in fact their charges have increased quite considerably recently, understandably. Hsbc offer an alternative, a global money account, only available to hsbc customers but have to say, so far brilliant..... no charges at all for transfers. I shall no doubt be making more use of the global account in future.

The western union route is interesting .
But doesn't ikisat bank charge a fee for receiving this money ?
I can't believe they facilitate this for nothing ?

No fee at Iktisat, honestly. I've done it several times. They must have an arrangement with Western Union. All you need is passport and number issued by Western Union for pickup.
Bear in mind that North Cyprus is listed with Western Union, be careful not to choose Cyprus.
Also, do go via the Post Office link for the cheapest rate, rather than straight from Western Union.

You are all very welcome and happy to share what little knowledge I have, to help with ever increasing bank and ATM charges here.
Thanks Compass, I completely forgot first transaction was free with WU.

This is very interesting as we have just been informed by Nationwide that they are closing all our UK accounts, I presume because our registered address is NC. We will need to transfer savings to NC and this sounds like the way to do it.alphamike wrote: ↑Mon 24 Apr 2023 6:04 pmYou could transfer money from your UK bank account using Western Union, through Post office link for £1.90. We have an Iktisatbank account and wonder if it's possible to transfer direct to it via Western Union rather than select the cash option. Do you know if that's possible?
Also anyone any ideas for best bank to hold sterling and maybe get a little interest? Thinking TEB or Garanti.
Lastly, does anyone have their pension paid into an NC account? Pros and cons?
