Any idea if he’d be able to fix an electric oven? No idea what’s wrong, it just doesn’t work! Also, the gas hob sounds like a 747 firing up for takeoff.

It's probably the electric element that has blown. You-tube how to replace and find out available replacement one for your make and model.
As to the gas hob the small gas jets get jammed up with muck, one for each hob. With a small round ratchet undo each one and clean using a pin.
