Re: GBP TRY
Unwinding of pre-election support . Unlikely the new economic team can step in and do more of the same as the vaults are low and the idea moving forward is to not to intervene ..
Talk of hike to 25 % interest on 22 Nd June but that might come in hikes over a few months or all.at once . Can't rule out an emergency meeting to hike if the TL keeps tanking . I think it was widely expected to fall like this find it's unsupported level and then the economic team get to work ..that's the plan from what I can see but who knows . Expect the shops to be out with the price guns ...again..then kibtek petrol etc etc finally the minimum wage ..
They need to make exports more attractive as Europe is now in recession and they send 50% of exports there

Re: GBP TRY
surely it cant be that expensive in TRNC that you have to drive south for meat? the fuel and time must add to the cost, also what are the TCs eating?

Re: GBP TRY
Its far cheaper buying meat from the South. We went yesterday, much much less than half the price here. Of course you factor in the Insurance however, we go every week which spreads the cost, we found a lovely supermarket Papa Antonio's, great prices super cafe there, a pleasure to shop.

Now showing at 31.40 Tl to £ on Google. My heart goes out to those on minimum wage here as prices will just keep going up. At least my pension is in Sterling, although it's not going as far as it once did.

Re: GBP TRY
Hi,
I used to live in Lapta and I was thinking of coming out for a holiday, I'm wondering how you're all getting on now the TL is over 30 to the £?
I was quoted everything in sterling when I enquired about a hotel room recently and also the 3 course meal was quoted in sterling. The country lives on the TL, how are the Turk Cypriots affording anything if this is the case. A £50 meal converted to TL would be astronomical for them?
Are the prices in the shops, restaurants etc still in TL or sterling to take advantage of the extremely high exchange rate back to TL?
Thanks.

Re: GBP TRY
If my math is right, 100 YTL was worth £5.06 GBP this time last year. Now it’s £3.02. So I’m all right Jack, but it must be hell for the average TC.

Re: GBP TRY
I left TRNC with 2000tl in my wallet 24 may 2023 aproximtly £80 its now worth £60
I blew 800 Tl in Istanbul airport today on 2x 330 of gassy Effes Lesson ask how much first I wasn't that thirsty £10.33 a glass for not even a pint
I'm down to £36 which I could invest a futher 888TL in 400 cigarets leaving £9.45 but the cigarets have a UK market value of £280 if I had a retail shop bringing me upto 10,000 tl nearly
Seriously the currency market is volatile with Quazi /Truss enomics the £/$ was nearly parity now its $1.27 to the £
Dont get me started on cripto currency the latest Ponsi scheme
Or Everton could have bought last seasons loanee from Wolves Conor Coady for £4.5million no they decided against it so we sold him to Leicester for £8.5 million

Re: GBP TRY
The average tc have plenty of money ...
Although it does often stem from frugal beginnings .
Imo the TCS are as rich as they have ever been .
Look at the cars many of them drive ..
The early pensions .
The land they own .
Many no mortgage .
Government jobs .
It's not as bad for them in general as others here .
But it is their country . So it should be like this .
To be fair the ones I know are not moaning they are poor but it's a common fallacy imo that the average Tc is poor .
It's the more recent arrivals from Turkey and workers from other countries and students who have been sold a false dream who are mostly the poor ones . I stand up for TCS when I feel they are being misrepresented but most I know are not short of a few bob. Students are mostly poor ..I was use to wash dishes all weekend .

Re: GBP TRY
LONDON (Reuters) - Sterling continued its slide against the euro and dollar on Thursday as the UK's declining inflation pulled back market expectations of further aggressive rate hikes from the Bank of England (BoE).
Data showed on Wednesday that British annual consumer price inflation fell to a much lower than expected 7.9% in June.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast the CPI rate in the 12 months to June would drop to 8.2% from May's 8.7%.

Perhaps i should have said inflation fell more than expected.
