Speeds up Resedency
Capital Insurance offers a service to get your Police appointment brought forward by a large amount.
The only thing is it costs £60....
Are there any other companies that will do it for maybe less than this?

Just how large is a large amount?

Is this not part of the corruption that is widespread here?
By paying this amount you contribute to the delays for honest people .

"Capital Insurance offers a service to get your Police appointment brought forward by a large amount."
Try that again - How much is the "Large Amount" that they can get it brought forward by???
As the current delay - or prison sentence if you want to view it that way - is around six to eight months, then I would expect the "Large Amount" to be an 80% reduction in waiting time!!!

Re: Speeds up Resedency
The way I have always looked at any payment made for doing a job like residency, mot etc is how much can you make while someone else is doing it. When I say make it could be in stress free, having time to yourself etc.
But it always amazes me how some moan about prices of food and drink but are willing to pay quite inflated prices in sterling to 3rd parties to do it. £60 for stress free residency ok but think how many hours a working person would have to do to earn this amount.Recently asked how much to pay a gardener they would have to physically work for at least 8 hours with a generous employer but more likely 10 or 12.

Way i look at it is a massive help if you need to get it done fast for some reason. Exactly the same as any other project like passport. They do exactly the same. If you don’t want the service why moan about a service that could save some people money. Crazy

Re: Speeds up Resedency
I said on here months ago that the system is not fit for purpose and that the dates for the police visit would get so crazy that almost no-one would go on their 'official allotted date'! The above just proves this point and the fact that basically you can bribe your way in early should disgust people not be promoted!!....I know these are not the only ones offering this 'service'.
More importantly I should like to know how many bookings the police allow for each day, the last few times I have been there (with friends and family) the window has been pretty much empty every time. This was certainly not the case before this booking system!

Well I personally think it’s great that someone is offering a service that some people have been desperate for. I think if you don’t want to use it then just leave the door open for people who do. Well done Trevor and staff at Capital bank who also offer a great insurance service

Re: Speeds up Resedency
The system is still a long way off being fit for purpose. It really needs improving and should be “fully on line”. Not gathering bits of paper and going to a police station. It should be possible to upload everything on line.
I can understand why some would use and pay for a “fast track” system. There are many reasons. Taking away the hassle/stress - yes it can be stressful for some are just one. However; the more that use a fast track just slows the process for those that do not. That’s frustrating.
No one is “stuck” and unable to leave the TRNC . If you need to leave the island there are ways and means to fast track your application however for many understanding what can be done, where to go , what paperwork is required and when is often confusing. It doesn’t involve payment of money to someone, just a bit of running around by yourself. Proof of travel etc is needed… tickets, booking information. This impacts on those whose applications are in the system. However if there is a reason to leave then you can leave.
I have often thought that some clever person who fully understands the process could pull together a flow chart to help guide those that get confused.
Of course offering and being able to possibly pay for 5 years or more each time would surely ease the burden.
It is what is it and for now we all will just have to hope things improve in time.

Re: Speeds up Resedency
I would love to know how Capitol Insurance 'offer' this service for £60. As others have stated there is no fast track appnt system, unlike the UK visas system. I can understand the desperation people feel when stuck in the process and unable to essentially leave - yes there is this under 60 days rule, but that is only when you have done your police stn visit I understand. Unless you can prove travel off island, it seems you are literally, stuck!
So where and who is this money being paid to begs the question? It has the whiff of corruption in my humble opinion. After 30 odd years here, you can sort of become immune to it. There has been a lot about this in the KIBRIS Postasi lately; both about private doctors and pharmacies allegedly abusing the government prescription system with false prescribing and patients, or over prescribing ( estimates some 80,000,000 lost in the last couple of months), to a minister openly asking for a bribe for services. Of course as non-citizens we can say, doesn't affect me, but it does as we will all have to pay for this in our various services we purchase, residency, car tax, VAT in shops, et cetera.
Yes the residency system is unfit for purpose; the minister said yesterday in the papers, even opening new crossing points and extra lanes at Metehan is impossible with the current numbers of police and immigration - need at least another 1500 personnel. The state budget is currently 80% spent on staff wages.

You know sometimes it pays NOT to question a system here, Just go with the flow, especially if your applying for residency and you need it urgently. So where and who is this money being paid to begs the question?
When all is said and done, You don’t have to use Capital you could just wait 6 month + for the police check.

Re: Speeds up Resedency
It’s perhaps one of the things that those who were raised in countries where “brown envelopes” are generally confined to big money deals (developers/politicians/corporations etc) don’t understand the concept of what some might call bribes or “easing the wheels”.
Recently while talking to friends from Pakistan they were telling me that a new on-line passport system was introduced there. While it seems to work, the big losers were civil servants who no longer received “incentives” to speed up the process for those who needed it.
In Hong Kong in the seventies (and probably still today) government officials (and the police) received “tea money” for their services.
So for those who don’t understand the system the questions become: dare I offer anything or will I be accused of trying to bribe/corrupt the official? How much should I offer? How do I make the offer (blatantly or, as in HK, “tea” money “for your trouble, officer”).
For those who grew up in a culture where such offers are the norm it perhaps isn’t such an issue but just part of the usual way of doing business.
Having said that, for example, how many of us have had work done by a tradesperson and made the payment “in cash” or been paid “under the table” ourselves?
Just my 2d worth!

I think that we must all be naive to believe that it does not happen in the UK , in particular banking and shares. i.e. HOT TIPS etc
Alas I think its human nature.

So went to Capitol, £60 well spent. The lady there checks all of your paperwork.

Hi HC, when you used Capitol did they give you a date when your residency will be completed?
Interested to know how much quicker it is to make it worth the £60

Re: Speeds up Resedency
Hair Cut, that will do for me! £2.20 a week to live here is good value - I pay more than that in UK Income Tax and for that all I get is a series of BHC's that learn Greek and ignore me whilst my taxes contribute to their wages!!!
(£60 X34TL = 2040TL) + (1840Tl per year residency) + (3620TL Hosp Ins per year) = 7500TL = £220.58 per year OR £4.24 a week. If you go for 2 years residency then it works out to 12960TL/£381.17 for 104 weeks = £3.66 a week - bargain!
