Does anyone need to move sterling cash from TRNC to UK account ?
Hi
If there is anyone out there who wants to move sterling cash here in TRNC to a UK bank account without any charges please pm me. I would take cash here and transfer exact same amount to their UK account. Up to 5k.
Thanks

Cash to bank transfers from people you don't know will set off alarm bells both with your bank and hopefully yourself.
Surprised that kibcom is facilitating this.

Sounds a bit fishy. You still need to explain where the money comes from

I'm sure criminals & terrorists will be interested in swapping their cash for deposits to a bank. It's called money laundering. Facilitating it as you suggest could be aiding crime which is why it's illegal.
Personal alarm bells should ring and if the bank investigate where deposits came from and you say 'some bloke on a north cyprus forum I've never met asked me to'.....your bank account would be closed.
I'm not suggesting the poster is doing anything illegal......just that the process could be seen as illegal.

Well, that would be the case if was not simply the case of two people who are not trying to launder what is a relatively small sum of money but do each other a good deed to avoid transfer costs...

The OP is well-known to many on this forum and is a “verified member” which I believe means his real identity is known to the moderators (of whom he was one once).
During the Covid crisis he personally went out of his way to arrange support for families struggling to make ends meet as the pandemic took its toll on their means of support.
See https://kibkomnorthcyprusforum.com/view ... es#p250829
Many of us who were caught away from the TRNC because of Covid and who couldn’t return used Erol’s offer to pass on donations to help these families.
Not the actions of an untrustworthy money launderer in spite of what the banks or anyone else may think.

What a load of rubbish it’s only to cut out all the rubbish it is here and ease. £5000 is nothing. To many busybodies on here with nothing to do but stir up trouble

Re: Does anyone need to move sterling cash from TRNC to UK account ?
If I post the same request on any of the many north Cyprus meta / facebook groups, as people do, would you be surprised at Meta facilitating such things ? What nonsense to cast aspersions against a community forum run by a known individual for 'facilitating' something that you would not bat an eyelid at when done by a mega corporation worth billons, all from your anonymous ID.
Money laundering exists and it goes on around the globe and around the clock and has been going on for centauries. The biggest facilitators of such laundering are not individuals like me but the very banks I am trying to avoid enriching further simply because I need to move money I have in a UK bank account to here without them getting a cut.
What do you mean 'explain where the money comes from'. I need to explain where the 5K I would transfer from my UK account comes from ? To whom ? To you ? To my bank ? I do not need to explain that to my bank. They already know where the money came from and have known me for over 35 years now. Or do you mean I need to know where the person with cash here got their money from ? If I sold my car for cash here would I need to know where they got that cash from before being able to legitimately sell my car ?Walesforever wrote:Sounds a bit fishy. Yeah right, even as as type this, criminals and terrorists around the world are scouring forums like these in the hope of being able to launder 5k GBP. Utter nonsense. Serious money launders do not use hundreds and thousands of individuals to launder money. They go to the professionals to do such things, the very banks III am trying to avoid enriching off my money.ginge wrote:I'm sure criminals & terrorists will be interested in swapping their cash for deposits to a bank. Indeed gates. I do despair at times.gates wrote:What a load of rubbish it’s only to cut out all the rubbish it is here and ease. £5000 is nothing. To many busybodies on here with nothing to do but stir up trouble
I will, one way or another, move my legitimate money from my legitimate UK bank account to here. If I can do so by avoiding enriching the real money launderers (the banks) then I will. If not I will suck it up and pay whatever is necessary to move my money.
So on that theme, can anyone tell me how the Casinos work here. Can I walk in, buy say 5K of cash chips with a debit card, then cash those chips in for hard currency cash and leave ?

Re: Does anyone need to move sterling cash from TRNC to UK account ?
One more thing
If criminals and terrorists have UK bank accounts that I am able to instantly transfer money to, then the real problem is that criminals and terrorists have such bank accounts at all. It is perfectly reasonable for me, imho, to assume that anyone with such an account is NOT a criminal or terrorist and that the BANK providing such a service to them has done its due diligence in ensuring such.
None of the negative responses to my post here make any sense to me in terms of the reality of the issue of money laundering. They only seem to make sense when viewed as not being about that issue but 'other things'.

Re: Does anyone need to move sterling cash from TRNC to UK account ?
Surely you have friends or family that can help you save £30 rather than approach strangers asking them to use their bank accounts for your benefit?
Also, and no-one has suggested you are doing anything illegal, any decent launderer will tell people it's just £5k in total whilst using 50 people doing the same thing making it £250k. Any bank is entitled to investigate any transaction & if when asked you say 'some bloke I don't know from north cyprus asked me to do it' ...your account will be closed.
Pay the £30.

Re: Does anyone need to move sterling cash from TRNC to UK account ?
I am not asking to use anyone's bank account ? I am buying cash here using my own bank account in the UK to pay for it. I can buy it from a bank here at an extortion cost and inconvenience or I can seek someone who wants to do the reverse to me and also does not want to pay extortionate charges for the privilege. What is the problem ? Or more bluntly what is your problem that you feel a need to 'get involved' at all ?
The transaction I would make would be an instant transfer from my personal UK account to another individual's personal account. If my bank asked me why I am paying this person 5k I would tell them the truth. I needed sterling cash here in the TRNC, found a counterparty who handed 5k in cash to me and I transferred the exact equivalent to their UK account. My account would not be closed, any more than if I said I paid the money in exchange for a 2nd hand car. If the person receiving the money was in fact a money launderer and was getting hundreds of such payments a month from hundreds of separate individuals then it would be for THEIR bank to questions what the payments are for.
Why ?
Just because you have some kind of 'problem' with me attempting to avoid paying such via this forum if I can ? Here is a suggestion for you, as you seem to feel entitled in telling me what I should do. How about you just mind your own business ?

My message was to make people aware of pitfalls of transactions which may alarm their bank.
You do not manage the board so please keep your rude comments to yourself or if you wish you can message me to discuss further so as not to spam the board.
No-one has accused anyone of doing anything illegal.

I have zero problem with you.
My posts are to forewarn anyone considering to move money for people they don't know. In the current economic & political climate this may cause them problems.
No-one has accused you of doing anything illegal so please calm down.
A few excerps from legal government agencies....

Re: Does anyone need to move sterling cash from TRNC to UK account ?
I am not proposing letting anyone use my bank account. Nor am I proposing to transfer money to someone I have not met in person.
So what is you problem ?
In any case I have now found a suitable counter party, thanks to Kibkom. I benefit, the counterparty benefits and the banks loose out. Result as far as I am concerned. So thank you for your concern about the risks but I am perfectly able to asses such risks for myself, given it is my money I am moving and my bank account I will be using to make the transfer.
This thread can now be closed. Thanks

I agree the thread should be closed.
Anyone seeking further advice should get it directly from their bank and see what they say and suggest in these circumstances.

Well thanks for letting us all know this but really you have no legitimate say in the matter, imho.
I would suggest people just think for themselves and not place too much store in advice from someone hiding behind an anonymous user ID on a forum. Such transactions can be made safely to both parties benefit, without breaking any laws, without benefitting terrorists or criminals and without risking your UK account being shut down as a result. People do it all the time. Over the 23 years I have lived here I have done it safely a handful of times, in each direction as circumstances required.

Any poster is entitled to an opinion and it is mine that the thread can be closed. Why you feel you can have one but others can't is telling.
People can think for themselves but ignorance of the law is no defence and to forewarn is a fair exchange of opinion.
I will comment no more on this subject.

Re: Does anyone need to move sterling cash from TRNC to UK account ?
I believe the anyone who starts a thread has a legitimate right to publicly request its closure. I do not believe that someone who actively chooses to respond to someone else's post then gains any right to a say on if it should be closed or not. It is not their thread. They are a guest in that thread. That is what I believe and it how I behave. I personally never publicly call for someone else's thread to be closed. If I think there is an issue I privately inform the moderators and let them deal with it as they see fit.
Does ignorance of the law include believing something that is NOT illegal is illegal ? Is that not ignorance of the law. So what law is it you think people might be ignorant of in a scenario like this ? AML legislation ? KYC legislation ? what ?
Given your posts to date I find that statistically unlikely to be blunt but am always willing to be shown to be wrong.
