Does anyone know anthing about Cess Pits?

Hi, I'm looking for advice.

Can anyone tell me who to contact to get my cess pit checked and emptied if necessary? We can't get the manhole covers off and there's an awful smell coming in to the house so it's the only thing we can think of.

Also, has anyone had this done and can give me an idea of likely cost?

Thanks.

Check to make sure you have proper U-bends on all your sinks and washbasins, the water in the toilet comes up far enough that no smells (or air) can escape and the washing machine - is there a proper plug on the pipe into the wall (this one happened to us and the smell was coming through the machine).

Not an expert but i have noticed all the villas which were completed around 2005 and been in regular use have all needed their holding chambers emptied this year. Depending on where you live, catalkoy Belediyesi have their own system .West side I have used Mehmet 0542 8517443 0533 8347701. cost is between 100tl and 150tl BARTER. Make sure both holding chambers are emptied. First time only the second chamber was emptied.

The biggest mistake builders and plumbers make here is they install a 50mm vent pipes, this will cause the traps to empty every time the toilet is flushed as this causes a vacuum behind the flushed water, drawing the water out of anywhere it can. The other solution is maybe you need your tank emptied.

Have you checked your soil pipe? Ours ended just under the eaves and we used to get a terrible smell in the house. Once it was extended we have had no further trouble.

Hi everyone, thanks for all the replies.
It turned out the cess pit was full. Thanks Graham for the no. for Cengiz, here within 30mins and now the smell is gone and I'll be able to sleep easy tonight!

For anyone else in Ozankoy area, the no. for Cengiz for drain/cess pit problems, his no. is 0533 8621640 or 0542 8834881.

Hi
I'm in the UK but do have a septic tank. Apart from emptying the only thing I do know about them is don't use too much bleach in the loo. The pits or tanks work on biological breakdown of waste and bleach destroys the bacteria that should be doing their job.
Does this help?

Msg 9,

If you want to restore the biological breakdown, chuck a dead sheep in the pit

We lived in the countryside in the UK and an old farmer told us that if our septic tank stopped working efficiently to just let him know and he would throw a dead hen in, that would create the bacteria to restore the balance.

I think we all overuse bleach and this is a big no no with septic tanks.

We closed all our west-facing toilet windows last night because of the high winds. Within 10 minutes we had to open them again as the smell was overpowering. I do not understand this as we have traps on everything up there.

Could our tank really be full after only 3 years (2 of us)?

Is it Mehmet Gargary who empties the tanks? He fills our water tanks.

Thanks for the numbers Pippie, called him today and he sorted my problem. Said if I have a problem in the next year he will come back out free of charge, but he told me not to use paper, so I said I will see him in 6 months!
